I have, many times, encountered instances in which the concept of light, darkness, and purity being the most basic form of all existence was supported. They have been given different names by different people, but they follow the same rules. Purity is the most basic. It is the nothingness created by contradiction. This is also the most difficult element to understand. To put it simply, purity is confusion. Light is action without thought. It is misleading, but not contradictory. Light shows more than the truth. It also tends to cause harm and lets itself become apparent. By this, I mean that it expresses itself in extreme ways. In its most common form, light is unsound belief. Darkness is everywhere. Nothing is capable of destroying it, but it causes no harm. It usually isn't even noticed. Darkness is the only thing that has seen enough to know what the truth is, but it reveals nothing. It simply sits alone and attempts to be undetected. Because of its nature, darkness is to spend eternity in loneliness. Darkness is experienced, mainly, as forgetfulness. As you may see, these all exist in everything. Only on rare occasions will only one exist on its own. Even your personality will have some of each.
