	My Doggy
	My Doggy

This is my dog, Rolo. He is a chihauhau and terrier mix. I have never loved an animal as much as I love him. The story of how he came into my life is a little funny. During the first days after Katrina, we made it home to find our home still standing, although every large tree had come down all around the house, even pressing against the windows so hard that they could not be opened. Over the next few weeks, my home became a revolving door of relatives that had returned to find their homes destroyed. I was a gracious hostess despite the lack of electricity. We prepared and ate our MRE's together, I washed dishes in a bucket using water from a neighbor who had a well (lots of sharing), and even washed clothes by hand. An Aunt's family stayed briefly before seeking a more permanent housing arrangement. However, they left their female dog with me. I had a male dog, Buster, but both were under the age of one year' s we didn't even think about the possibility of them mating. On Christmas, lots of family dropped by for visits. It was funny because when that particular family came by, we went out so they could visit their dog, and found them "hooked up." The puppies were born on Valentine's Day. They were all so small, but Rolo was the runt. There is no doubt that had survival of the fittest would have been allowed to play out, he would not have made it. I guess with all the special attention, I became attached to him.
So, he is coming up on his second birthday. He's not very socialable with strangers, but he loves to take a ride with me. He automaticaly curls up on my lap and usually goes to sleep.
