Two novels that I'm working on (#2 is for Summer WriMos) - here's a bit of the basic plot for each:
1.) Cerulean is your average high school student, except that he's got what you would call an overactiv e imagination. He daydreams. A lot. Get ready for the cliche: he gets stuck in his daydream world, via a door that randomly appears in the middle of his bedroom. In the land he ends up in, he meets a girl, Lian, whose father has just died while trying to fulfill their family's oath - and now it's up to Lian. Her mom wants her to take some friends along because she's still young, so they go pick up App and then start off to see the king. On their way, the first in a series of murders occurs. When they reach the king, he asks them to find the culprit, and suggests they find Taylon, the first person always suspected. Taylon didn't do it, but while they're taking watch someone else is attacked - Jareth, the prince who was sneaking around town just trying to have some fun. Unfortunately, the only thing they find out about the would-be killer is that they are a skilled magic user (wizard). Taylon and Jareth both decide to help Lian on her quest; they go back to the king so Jareth can beg for approval icon_xp.gif The king says okay, but only as far as the Historian's home, and he's expected to stay there and study. At this point, App leaves because her father's been lost at sea, so the other four set off. When they reach the Historian's house, Cerulean learn's that he's also from the real world, but he (Harold, the historian) thinks he got there by dying. Jareth ends up staying with Harold's understudy while Harold joins Lian in her quest... Other stuff happens too. Lian's younger brother turns to the dark arts, and is somehow tied to the murders. There's a whole subplot about whether dragons actually existed and went extinct, or if eveything was myth... and the two main cities are practically at the brink of war, with Lian's hometown smack in the middle of the two. Also, there's the question of how exactly Lian's father died...
2.)This one sounds so obviously cliche on the top, but once you get into it...three friends: Ty, the mechanical genuis; Scott, the sterotypical gay guy from California; and Kitt, the voice of reason. Ty decides they should all take his boat out and try to find Atlantis by not looking for it. How original. They set out, and a storm washes them onto a strange island. Scott's getting bad vibes and refuses to get off the boat, so Kitt has to bribe him with a kiss (Scott likes Kitt, Kitt just wants to be friends. Kitt=straight) So Scott gets off the boat, and the three venture up to the treeline to see if they can't find either some people or some fresh water. They end up camping out right below the treeline, and Kitt wakes up in the middle of the night to see Scott walking away. He calls out, but Scott doesn't seem to hear him. Kitt wakes up Ty and they follow, because Scott seems to be in some kind of trance. They're led to a glade where Scott (who's being controlled) tells them about the plight of the island. Then a girl shows up (named Delaresa) and explains that she's the physical embodiment of eight of the Ancients, spirits who used to be inhabitants of the island, and she asks for their help. Stuff happens; in the morning they discover their boat was washed back out to sea. There's dissention in the ranks, and Ty breaks away (something about the Ancient's technology). Other than that, I don't know the rest of the story.
And then, character descriptions for #1:
Full Name: Cerulean Blue Age: 16 Description: long white hair, green eyes, wears glasses
Where to start, where to start... He likes to daydream. That's about it. He's a good guy at heart, if a little clueless about some things, but he doesn't let it get to him. He's sort of a typical nerd-type, except better-looking and doesn't concentrate as much on school - he gets A's without trying, but he really doesn't care what his grades are. Some people may say he's attention-deficit, but that's not true when it comes to his intense bouts of daydreaming. For him, the real world doesn't seem like his world - the world inside his head is where he'd rather be, and when he gets there and it doesn't turn out to be at all like he imagined it...it's a bit of a shock.
Full Name: Lian Thessalith Age: 16 Description: green eyes...not sure about the hair, it was purple originally
Lian is not a pretty little flower of a girl. If, however, you had to compare her to a flower, she'd either be a rose or a berry patch. She's pretty enough on the outside, but don't get her mad or she'll hit back, and hard. Lian is one heck of a fighter. Unfortunately, she doesn't have quite enough maturity to match it. She knows her limits and doesn't try to exceed herseld, but she doesn't always use her skills for the right things, or in the right ways. She's nice enough if you know her, but she can be a little overbearing at times. Her redeeming qualities...well, she cares a lot for her mother, and she doesn't mope around too much after her father's death, she just plunges straight in and does what has to be done. She wants to be the one to fulfill her family's oath, and she's not about to let anyone or anything get in the way.
Full Name: Taylon Travetis Age: 26 Description: Silvery hair with a purplish tint, light green eyes
Taylon is a full elf, from the elven continent of Farlinde. His father is unknown, and his mother was murdered when Taylon was young. He's set his life on revenge of a sort; he hires himself out as an assassin and does a bit of freelance pickpocketing and blackmarket dealing on the side. Currently residing in an abandoned watchtower deep in the Greenleaf forest, Taylon is usually the first suspected when someone turns up dead on the east half of the contient. He's bisexual and has a bit of a thing for both Cerulean and App; he decides to help out only because of Cerulean - he can't stand Lian.
Full Name: App Salawa Age: 20 Description: light brown hair, dark blue eyes
App is a fairly normal person, at least for someone who's 3/4 human and 1/4 fairy. She lives with her mother and younger brother; her father and uncle run a shipping business between the human and elven continents, so they're pretty well-off. App's an adventurous sort who likes to spend time away from home camping out in the woods or going with her father to Farlinde - she's a natural candidate for Lian's quest, knowledgeable in survival skills, and a good friend of Lian and her family. However, she ends up quitting Lian's company to rush home to her mother when word reaches her that her father's ship has been lost at sea.
And #2:
Full name: Scott Daeonsae Age: 19 Description: dirty blonde hair, blue-green eyes, tan icon_heart.gif
Scott's gay. That's the short of it. The long, well...Scott comes from a middle-class family; he's had a typical life (except for the gay part, obviously). After his family found out, they disowned him and kicked him out as soon as he turned 18. He's got an older brother (David) who he still talks to, but his parents refuse to have anything to do with him. His life's pretty rough at the moment; he works two jobs and can barely afford his tiny apartment. As the Ancients describe the group, Scott is the emotional one. He's the mediator; he'll say Ty's idea is okay, but it's really all about Kitt. There's always a but with Scott. He worries, but not nearly as much as Kitt or Ty. He's just an iffy kind of guy.
Full name: Kitt Stevenson Age: 19 Description: black hair, green eyes...tall dark & handsome icon_heart.gif
Kitt is from a lower-class family. His father's been in prison most of his (Kitt's) life, and he and his mother struggle to make ends meet. He works a full-time job at the library. According to the Ancients, Kitt is the voice of reason, the balance to Ty's insanity. He knows when something's gone too far, and will quietly remind them that he advised against it. When he comes to the island, his powers of foresight are intensified, letting him sense a short way into the future. Kitt's the kind of guy who will go to the mall and sit in the food court just so he can observe other people (hence his job at the library). He likes observing more than participating, and because of this he's been called a stalker more than once. icon_sweatdrop.gif He likes Scott as a friend, nothing more - but his tune changes toward the end.
Name: Troy "Ty" Hertton Age: 20 Description: dark brown hair, intense blue eyes
Ty is a mechanical genius, and slightly off his rocker. He's one of those people who talks down to you because he knows his intelligence is superior. However, if you can get over that, he'll mellow out a little. To Ty, work comes first - and work is classified as anything he comes up with. Ty doesn't know how to think inside the box; he's always out of it, and this can sometimes be a setback. On the island, because of little differences that won't be discussed here, Ty basically comes to hate the other two and becomes the villian of the story. He wants all the technology for himself, and the island can go to hell for all he cares. Not even pretty Delaresa can change his mind about that. Perhaps his family might have something to do with his attitude: his parents were both killed when he was young.
Name: Delaresa Age: it depends... do you want the ages of the Ancients who reside in her, or how long her physical body's been around, or her apparent age? Description: Think of the most beautiful tree you can imagine, then imagine if that tree were turned into a woman. Delaresa is the physical embodiment of eight of the Ancients. I'm not quite sure what their names are, or even if I need to name them...but each letter in Delaresa's name is the starting letter for one of theirs. The Ancients are the spirits of people who used to inhabit the island before they were mysteriously wiped out. They are trying to save the island from an unknown fate. There are lots of unknowns about the greater part of this story.
