Director: Jae- Yong Kwak
Cast: Tae- Hyun Cha Ji-Hyun jeon
Genre: comedy/ romance
Review: In the summer of 2001, the romantic commedy My Sassy Girl premiered in Korean cinemas. Based on an online diary-turned-novel by writer Ho-sik Kim, the movie became the highest grossing Korean comedy in their box-office history. It also became the country's second highest grossing film for 2001. Two years later, it was awarded Best Asian Film in the Hong Kong Film Awards.
Directed by Jae-young Kwak, who also wrote the script, MSG details Kim's relationship with his off-well college girlfriend. Korean pop singer Tae-hyun Cha makes his film debut as the hapless Kyun- Woo while relative newcomer Ji-hyun Jeon is cast as the nameless girl he crosses path with.
The movie begins when college student Kyun-Woo, takes a late night subway trip home. He encounters a drunken girl (Ji-hyun) who calls him "honey" just before she passes out. Assuming he's the girl's boyfriend, the passengers charge Kyun-woo to look after her. He then carries her on his back for miles and drops her off at a motel. But instead of leaving her there, he finds himself both curious about and concerned with the nameless girl. As the story prgresses, Kyun-WOo and the girl developed an unusual friendship that takes him through all sorts of situations which includes landing in jail, getting caught in a hostage situation, and going to a club wearing their hs uniforms.
But as their feelings deepen, the girl begins to doubt if their relationship will ever work out.
As the title suggests MSG is a love story, although far from a mashy type. The ending is a bit soap-operatic wherein they met each other coincidentally.
Ratings: heart heart heart heart
