What’s truth that
Seeps oblivion?
We listen to passionate
Sermons to sooth
Our troubled hearts
To quell our anxious spirit
We read ancient books
Full of deep holes
Devoid of answers
We ignore them
And pray with veils
Over our eyes
Fed sermons, warnings,
Commandments and rituals
We blindly kneel on command
And surrender our devotions
To Him, Her, Them, It
Dutifully, devoutly, obediently
We sink in deep holes
Where no light can reach
And turn our ears
Away from strange words
We sneer at gentiles
Who believe otherwise
Some climb out of the sinkhole
And explore the boundaries
But others sink deeper
Dutifully following their blind faith
