my words don't mean anything
but someone has to write them
just like someone has to watch you
all the time, some
nameless observer
who blinks impartial judgement
on your shoes, your hair-style
your eyeglass-frames
my words don't mean anything
like the 'na na na'
in a popular love song.
Na na na
na na
na
my words don't mean anything
like '******** you'
who decides what a curse word is
these days, anything could be
like your three cheers for apathy.
Hip hip
hooray
na na na
na na na
my words don't mean anything
don't make sense
don't have to
who are you to judge what means anything
who am I to say anything worth hearing?
We are so young and reckless
so young and so perfectly posed
to go down in history
if anyone was writing it
what is history
and why does it need making?
We are so young
and so acutely, painfully aware
of our youth.
Why should I waste my ink
on words?
Why should I waste
the energy in my printer
or the energy in my fingers
that it takes to type this?
Na na na
na
na
this is my way
of spitting in your face
if anyone was watching
if anyone notices
if anyone gives a ********
not me
such a practiced observer
after all this time, I can't even figure
how to get my foot in the door
to step outside
to do anything else besides
rot and grow pale
under an illuminating false sun.
but nobody wants to hear about this
nobody's listening to you whine.
We just have to get it out
to whine to a page if no one else will listen
who says we're doing this for your benefit?
How presumptuous,
how
perfectly
arrogant
you are.
Na na na
na na na.
