What a nostalgic combination; death is knocking at my door.
It has been left unlocked, but I’m not quite sure what for.
Did someone leave it open? Or have I neglected my mind?
Let it wander too far off, or suffocation from being too confined?
He knocks so invitingly, but I’m too comfortable enjoying this scent.
As the air I breathe slowly pollutes with an undesirable content.
Be careful my lungs, what you yearn for is not what you think.
Allow me to let the stranger in and offer him a drink.
He’s been patiently waiting; I’ve become a terrible host.
As I seize this opportunity to think of the ones I’ve loved the most.
But I grow weak and fatigued, and stop before the doorknob is reached.
While my lungs foolishly give in to the poison that has silently breeched.
I sink into exhaustion, the stranger beyond waits.
Perhaps after this careless nap I’ll see what this creates.
Carbon monoxide; soothe me to sleep.
For I pray the lord my soul to keep.
