Live—I’m asking you please
Breathe—do it for me
Love—because you never did before
Remember—that far away shore
So long ago, so long ago
Those summers by the sea
When it was me and you, and you and me
We were so happy then
So very completely happy when—
And now—
The surf pulls at my dress
And I must look an awful mess
This winter by the sea
When it’s getting harder just to breathe
And to live
And to love
But most of all
To remember
That far away, so long ago, shore

Description:
this is poem i wrote a few years ago, after a particularly nasty few years of depression and the consequential meltdown and attempt at suicide. written from the standpoint of a very good friend who, when i was well enough to not feel guilty at hearing it, told me how she handled what i had done and how far away and helpless she felt.
