What would you do if your mother asked you?
I would tell her the truth of what happened that day.
She wouldn't believe me or whatever I say.
She would say I was lying, crazy, or both.
I could try to reason with her and claim the truth.
But what good would it do? Who listens to children anyway?
We tell stories and lies, and hide the innocence in our eyes.
No one ever believes us, even if what we say is true,
Because we are just kids, what more can we do?

Description:
This is a writing prompt from my freshman English class. Our teacher read us The Cat in the Hat and asked us the question "What would you do if your mother asked you?" It wasn't supposed to turn into a poem but it did and this is where I realized that I really love writing poetry. Hope you enjoy :) Please comment!
P.S. If you haven't read The Cat in the Hat you definitely should :) - Date: 04/13/2011
