Give me a smile,
or I'm not coming home tonight.
I'll laugh myself drunk on strobe lights and smoke
until the streetwalkers back away from my glow;
I won't grow cold even as the snowflakes
sequin my skin and my feet fall into individual
puddles of slush and engine oil rainbows and
disappear.
And I won't hurt even when the night wind sets razors
to my face again and again;
I'll let the lamplights burn my soul into alley walls.
I'll get rid of it. I won't wear your scarf,
for spite.
You think you're the only one who can worry the world sick?
I'll sell myself to the winter beach.
I'll sit in the frozen sand and will myself to sleep.
If you don't hurry and dig, you'll never find me--
only my grinning skull baring humorless teeth.
It's not too late, you can buy me cheap.
Give me a smile...
please.
