Cigarette placed between her finger tips,
Drags to watch the paper burn
Puff after puff inhaling through parted lips
She needs this to return.
Befriended smoke lingers,
It dances all around
Hope sets between her fingers
A ritual profound.
Mouth dry and stale
Exhales- she needs more
Masked by a smokey veil
A hard thing to ignore
Burn an image out her mind
She did her best to pretend.
Could she only be so blind?
Ash all smothered in the end.
