I still remember the world,
through the eyes of a child.
The only eyes I ever saw with.
Time has blurred the years,
but I still remember.
I didn't know the year...
I was young...
But the big, black eagle,
and gold, black and red became
a big, boxy spider,
and red, white, and black.
I never liked that spider,
it scared me,
and it scared my friends.
They had to wear stars
yellow stars, with a single word.
The stars said "Jew" but in
a language I could not read.
And then they were taken away,
all my friends vanished as I watched.
Then I was taken.
But... I wasn't a Jew,
or a gypsy, or sick.
I just "looked wrong"
What did that mean?
I had black hair... it should have been blonde
I had green eyes... they should have been blue
I had freckles... they weren't called angel kisses
And so I vanished, too...
