"The wind! The wind!"
We cried, we cried,
The ugly witch
who never spied
the youth, the youth,
upon her roof
of sugar-plum delight.
"Heaven-born wind!"
I yelled, I yelled!
How sweet her house
of horror smelled!
The taste, the taste,
drowned me with haste
upon her roof
of sugary splendor.
A strawberry shingle,
a gingerbread brick,
so many things to eat and lick!
My mind abuzz with
a sugar buzz,
if only we were quick...
Into the house of horror went we,
the witch, the witch,
my brother and me.
And from her oven she supplied
sweets galore,
tide by tide.
There was no time to run and hide,
no time, no time,
to run and hide.
