• Friends are good for the soul;
    They help you gain control
    When you lose it…
    Friends are like medicine;
    They keep you from making a tailspin
    And crashin’ ‘cause you’re sick…
    Friends are like therapists
    ‘Cause they’ve never missed
    Your sadistic fascinations.
    Friends are like loyal dogs,
    Herding away the sheep from the hogs,
    Help keeping you in line.

    I’ve always made some friends,
    But they’ve never stayed till the end…
    Seems I’m not good at keeping them at all.
    This time, I pray,
    That each and every day,
    I’ll be glad to wake up and laugh.
    ‘Cause I know my friend is there,
    Waiting to comfort me when I need some loving care,
    And concerned when my health isn’t good.
    “I need you friend,” I think;
    My tears stain paper like ink
    For my thoughts are the pen that I wield.

    I write to my friend now,
    Write him my solemn vow
    That I will always abide to:
    “I won’t lose you,
    No matter the catch-22
    That seems so imminent and threatening.
    I promise that I’ll keep you close,
    Like some kind of drug I want to overdose
    And drown myself in.
    No, I won’t lose you,
    No matter what they try to do
    Since I know how I will go on…
    I’ll keep singing this song.”

    Friends are like the soothing wind
    That catches you when you’ll cave in
    And cradles you when you are falling apart.
    Friends are like ice cream
    That freezes the fever dreams
    And keeps you living in the present.
    With friends such as this
    You must not go amiss
    With your intentions and actions.
    So here is my advice to you,
    To keep your friendship from going past due:
    Hold onto your friends.
