Dark and desolate
The abandoned children sing
They were abused and forgotten for it
But they want someone to take them under their wing
With no home to call their own
And no food to fill them up
They starve and moan
While shacking the empty cup
Dead and gone
Forgotten and alone
There they lay on and on
God help their rested bones

Description:
This is a poem about the abandoned children all around the world. They don't ever get discussed about, so I wrote this to raise awareness about it. For those that don't know, desolate can be pronounced two ways: des-uh-lit or des-uh-leyt. I happen to pronounce it des-uh-lit, so, for me, desolate and it rhyme.
Edit: I'm sorry that I didn't make this clear, but in Stanza 1, Line 2 and 3, I meant that they were abused and forgotten for being abandoned, not singing. - Date: 04/18/2009
