• What gives growth to the plants and the flowers
    and covers the leaves with many rain drops?
    The tears of the sky come down in showers,
    the soft patter of the rain on treetops,

    the wet smell of earth filling your senses,
    This is the rain that we can’t live without.
    My rain drives the birds down to the fences,
    their wings dripping wet, their minds filled with doubt.

    People are running, umbrellas in hand
    with rain boots pulled on, their jackets all snug.
    Nothing can stop when the clouds make demands.
    Children are warm, with a hot cocoa mug.

    Without the rain we would no longer be,
    I love the rain, but maybe that’s just me.
