A Handful of Green
"All for nothing or nothing for all"
That is what he said,
On that day when the sun shone like it never had.
We were happy then,
Despondent lovers,
Clinging on the hope of each other.
But the sun went down
Just as we knew it would
We thought all is not lost
The trees are still green,
The birds they still sing.
But the singing, it too, soon stopped.
The chill in the air
Became the ice in our hearts
The trees, they wept
For the love that was lost
Their leaves stained the ground
With oranges and brown,
And the colour washed out of his eyes.
Then winter came
And dressed me all in white
Such a beautiful bride, but he was no longer mine
So I whispered good-bye
As the sun began again to shine
And just like he said I had nothing...
But everything
Just the birds' sing song eulogy
And a handful of green.

- That was really good how it starts out ally happy, and things go down from there. it kind of reminds me of Edna St. Vincent Millays poem because it has the same main idea behind it
