The feel of the grass on my toes,
Is home to me
Not to feel that
Is like having no home
These shoes take away the home
“If the feel of the grass is home,
What is the feeling you have with the shoes?” the strange lady asked
“Loneliness” I reply
She seemed familiar
Like the feeling of the grass in between my toes
She is the woman the doctors say I called Mother
But the memory is distant
Soon it will come back
That is what the doctors tell “Mother” and I
When she cries about my accident and my lost memory,
All I can do is cry with her and try to remember
“My memory will come back soon.”
I tell Mother
Simply repeating the doctors words
Not knowing what they mean
The woman smiles at me and says back “Yes it will.”
I soon found out the truth,
About my lost memory
There was ice on the road and the car went sliding
My head was found bleeding from when we slid
I had hit it on the cracked window
I also found out the reason why the grass feeling was gone
I was in the hospital
There was no grass where I was
So the feeling was gone,
But in place of the grass feeling was a woman
The woman I feel at home with
The one I call Mother
