Your shadow is my darkness
In your legacy I hide
Tucked away from reality
Drowning in secrets and lies

You said that you loved me
You’d never let me down
But here I am left crying
And all I feel is doubt


Your shadow is my darkness
And I will always know
You go on without a care
And I will always be “a liar”

Sinking in the dark
Your face never leaves my mind
I know how you betrayed me
Yet I cannot leave you behind


Your shadow is my darkness
That I conceal with a smile
Never talking, always lying
Completely afraid to feel

Run away when it gets too hard
Like you always have
Leave me here to crumble
And you call yourself a dad

Yeah, that is exactly what I was going for, but obviously if you've lived the perfect life, as some have, it is difficult to grasp that concept.

I disagree with the other person who wrote here.I actually had an abusive dad, and i think that line, Your Shadow is My Darkness actually makes sense. Its not talking about shadow as a shade of color, (all in my opinion) its saying the physical shadow itself is the darkness in the heart. This is how I understand it, and I think it's kind of rude to not try and look into the other meanings. I would have put your comment in different words.Saranity, if you ever need someone to talk to, message me.

Okay. "Your shadow is my darkness." That may be the most redundant line I've ever heard. "Your shadow is my darkness." Why not "Your clouds are my visible mass of droplets or frozen crystals floating in the atmosphere above the surface of the Earth?"
