A march in winter
Freezing snow and wind
No food
Snow for water
Thin clothes
Real snow replacing
The false from the smokestacks
They move us
To escape
The liberating force
The fear shows
In their eyes
But only for themselves
They care not for us
Our families,
Our friends
Long gone
Or frozen in the drifts
They may watch over us
I do not know
I feel no more warmth
Perhaps, soon
I will be taken as well
Taken by this march of death

Description:
This is one of two poems I have about the Holocaust. My family's Jewish (though I'm not), and most of them are from Eastern Europe. I probably had relatives that were killed in the Holocaust.
My other poem is called "Ashes" and is talking about a different aspect of the Holocaust than this is, though they share some of the same ideas. - Date: 12/03/2008
