Alice is dead.
“Look!” Says the Cheshire Cat,
The Hatter, the Doormouse.
“Look!” Say the occupants of Wonderland.
Alice is dead.
Her body lies in a crumpled heap,
On the floor of the rabbit hole.
The blood pools around her still,
Was the poor girl a crushed soul?
The queen of Hearts was rude,
The Hatter and Hare confusing,
The ways of Wonderland were crude,
But was it Alice’s fault of not perusing?
Alice followed the White Rabbit
Down into his hole.
Alice followed the White Rabbit,
And now she is no more.
Maybe she should have been more careful.
That was said at the funeral long.
As cat and mouse and card and friend
Broke into mournful song.
Alice followed the White Rabbit…
But was it her fault?
Alice followed the White Rabbit…
And Alice got caught.
And then they found the note:
“If you had all been kinder,
If you had always cared,
If you had been a little nicer,
Maybe I’d still be there.
“It was I who stood at the rim of the hole,
With my feet touching air.
This will be my story never told,
How I took my life because you didn’t care.”
So was it the people or Alice,
Who made a bad choice?
Was it spite or plain malice,
That leaves no room to rejoice?
For Alice followed the White Rabbit,
Down into his hole,
Alice followed the White Rabbit,
But she followed him to certain death.
