If only he had never told me “never.”
If only I hadn’t asked.
My family might still be whole.
If I had never asked.
I’d cherish the memories for years to come, if I had more memories.
To be on the old green couch with them, to hear them laugh… together once again.
I’d celebrate the sound of them talking peacefully.
But instead the haunting sound of yelling and screaming torments me in my head.
The slamming door like a broken record in the silence of the night.
So now I am here, begging set me free.
Set me free of these sorrows that I can’t seem to get rid of.
Set me free so I can feel alive once again.
I have felt okay before but when I am starting to forget, the memories come flooding back to me.
Like a relentless virus that wont let go.
So please, set me free.
