Merope,
I wish I could speak to you now
And that you could hear me
But that dream is impossible
Why did you have to leave us?
I wish I could read this
And you would listen
Merope, my rabbit, my friend
Your soft white fur
Your ruby red eyes
I'll never forget them
My dear, sweet rabbit.
If I bathe in plain plain water
I cannot tell
All I feel is the tears that I shed for you
I remember the last time I saw you, and will
Your half-open eyes, gazing at the sky
The color drained away
Dirt showered on your snowy fur
And you were gone, hiddenfrom sight.
But though to my eyes you are invisible
I can feel you in my heart.

- Description: I name my pets after book characters so I won't forget them. But character name or not, I doubt I will ever forget Merope. Rest in peace, September 7, 2008.
