The emerald light piercing
I flew from death
Hawk's body
United with mind
The gem below
I feared
for my family
The wings ached
all of as wanted
As the flight continued
The land grew safer
Strong eyes saw
As danger below
The wings descended
The flight protected
As the birds transformed
Chirps became words
Flaps turned to steps
The people returned home
Unknowing of the serpents
The danger laying in wait
As they drew nearer
Air brutally still
Shocked looks exchanged
As the city was exposed
Half serpents attacked
Destroying a few
before the losses
before the battle began
The blood ensued
serpents and avians
scales and feathers
venom gushed
daggers flashed
And all cried in pain
The survivors realized
The dying saw it sooner
Why all this war?
The beliefs we all carry?
Over race and different ability?
Why?
- Title: Serpentines and Avians

Description:
I wrote this about a year ago. It is based on the novel Hawksong by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. I find it touching... why do we fight over petty differences like culture? Exactly what is asked here.
For more info on the novel, please go to Wikipedia or read it online ^^ This might become a good bit clearer after hearing of the differences in the serpent and avian cultures within the novel. - Date: 09/06/2008
