Children playing,
Laughing, saying,
That they can't wait to get a little older,
Because every little boy dreams to be a soldier.
Watch them running,
Singing and humming,
How they can't wait to get a little bigger,
Because every little girl dreams to be a singer.
For now,
They're reaching to the highest branch,
To try and climb the tree,
So they can get a better view,
Of what it's like to be;
Above the ground, close to the skies,
Catching all the fireflies.
Little hands,
Cannot understand,
Why young hearts aren't meant to be broken,
And why time only seems to be slowing.
If only,
They could see,
That the grass only stays green for so long,
And that life will just keep pushing them on.
Luminating in all places,
Golden glow against their faces,
It keeps them young, and their hearts pure,
Their beholders are envious of all they were.
And someday,
When they are,
Able to touch their wishing star,
Above the ground, close to the skies,
Will they still catch the fireflies?

- It's not bad. I like the content, but the timing was off for me. I suppose if I heard you read it, it might sound better.
