As I held that child
I felt his pain
And his fear
I saw all that he saw
All that pain and misery
Tears sting his eyes
And burn his cheeks
Will the pain stop?
Please stop crying?
I can't bear to watch his pain
So I say,
"Please brother
What causes you such pain?
What brings you to tears?
Please tell me
So I can wash away all your fears
And fight your demons"
Never have I heard
So much misery in one child
What this child has seen
Is not something most know
But he knows true pain
True loneliness
A child out on the streets
Lost with no one to guide him
His parents taken away
By the hands of man
And left alone
Fire grazed my cheeks
Burning in my chest was a fire
One that grew and flickered
As I held that child
I felt his pain
And his fear
I saw all that he saw
All that pain and misery
Tears sting his eyes
And burn his cheeks
Will the pain stop?
Please stop crying?
I can't bear to watch his pain
Holding him tighter and tighter
"I'm so sorry!
But I promise
I will help along this long, hard road
Never will I leave
Never will I let you go
I will protect you
From danger
From man
From the unknown
I make a vow to hold you safe and sound"
He just cried, my shoulder wet
"I can't erase all those memories
But I can help you create new
New, greater memories to lighten the blow
I wish I could take away your pain
Take away all you have been through"
Now, I can't even describe
How I felt when I saw him smile
It brought me hope and joy
To see that smile
To see that spark of happiness upon his face
"My dear brother
I promise you"
THe whispered words brought him to say
"Thank you"
~Please take your time to lend your hand
Help another to get back on his feet
