Mankind is soaring into a new age of prosperity.
The sciences are quickly advancing, and brilliant inventions are being created every day. Constantly our technologies expose us to new corners of the world, and new depths of understanding.
Our ability to communicate thoughts and ideas has reached immense new heights, and our past ignorances are slowly being buried in this age of enlightenment...
However, with all these material advances, as a whole we are still sadly lacking in advances of an intellectual nature.
In spite of the importance of personal freedom to individuals in the west, many are quick to claim that we are controlled by our media.
Should it not be media that is controlled by the population subscribing to it?
When it comes to taking responsibility for the actions and attitudes of our society, people seems to prefer playing the victim.
By being under the spell of popular media, a woman with an eating disorder is not simply a victim of her own vanity, but a guiltless victim of the scapegoat of popular media influence, and unrealistic ideals set by that nameless entity.
Influenced by popular media, women feel entirely justified partaking of dangerous crash diets and fad exercise programs, and weight loss gimmicks, all for the sake of appearances.
Few are those who question these superficial motives.
After such struggles for women's rights, intelligence and personality are only now being recognized as attractive traits in women, but we still feel the need to focus so intently on physical appearance. More than simply trying to look our best, we go out of our way to change our physical appearance as well as belittle not only those who are more attractive but also those who less attractive than ourselves.
Women now more than ever are focusing intently on their physical nature, holding not only themselves but each other up to unrealistic expectations of uniform body type and flawless appearance, while entirely supporting the industry of self-depreciation of their own volition.
The rare instances in which these superficial standards are not exploited involve showy displays of skills and talents rather than exemplifying our traits and character.
Instead of encouraging ourselves to be honest, dignified, joyful, courteous, and wonderous, to overflow with character and virtue, we limit ourselves to definition by looks and skills.
"Girl Power" is currently a lie.
Women most often compete for attention instead of co-operate, and are quickly driven to jealousy rather than celebrating each others successes.
Our serpentine cruelty towards other women and ourselves as a result of our insecurities is the reason we remain the weaker sex.
There is always, however, hope for a brighter future.
We are offered countless opportunities to reflect on our own actions and attitudes and determine for ourselves how they affect the world around us, and hopefully as our opportunities to mature as individuals multiply with the growth of our personal awareness, so will our efforts to exploit those opportunities.
We must be united in our efforts to achieve growth,
And while presenting oneself in a pleasant manner allows for an excellent first impression, these achievements must be on more than a superficial level.
Ladies, we have had handed to us so many countless blessings and opportunities that no other generation in any part of the world has had.
Let's prove that we are worth it.

Description:
In a moment of frustration regarding the manner in which women treat each other and the shallow nature with which they gauge their own value, I was prompted to write this short article.
I hope it inspires thought,
Sorry if it is a bit terse... Perhaps the next one will be more inspired? - Date: 04/11/2009
