• DAMON (CNT’D)
    You’re free to go.

    KIERRA
    I know.

    DAMON
    You need to tell me something?

    (Beat)

    KIERRA
    Why are you so hard on Phoenix?

    DAMON
    I’m hard on him? How do you see
    that?

    KIERRA
    The way you were just talking to
    him? You can never be calm and
    collective with him. Why?

    DAMON
    I expect more from him. He’s 24.
    Still doing things he’s not
    suppossed to. He put himself in
    danger.

    KIERRA
    Christ, dad, cut Phoenix some
    slack! His intentions are good! He
    was looking out for me, Xavier,
    Sarah, everyone! And as a father,
    you should appreciate that! You
    have to start getting close with
    him. He might not show it, but he
    needs you.

    KIERRA (CNT’D)
    Ever since mom died, I thought life
    couldn’t get any worse. But as we
    know it, this could be the end. You
    said so yourself, we don’t know a
    thing. How are we suppossed to
    protect ourselves if we don’t have
    a clue what’s going on?

    Pause.

    DAMON
    I just want you guys to be safe.
    You need to let me worry about
    making sure you guys are okay.

    KIERRA
    You’re not ALWAYS going to be
    there. You weren’t at the time we
    found out about the basement. And
    the reason why we didn’t come to
    you is because we knew how you
    would react.

    DAMON
    Don’t talk like that. We are going
    to be ok. We have shelter,
    protection...

    KIERRA
    I know...I know...I’m
    just...afraid. Whats even scarier
    is no one knows whats happening.
    Not a one.

    Damon hugs Kierra tightly.

    DAMON
    You know how everyone says you act
    just like you’re mother...it’s
    true. You have her attitude, her
    strangth...we’re going to pull
    through this as a family. We still
    have each other.

    KIERRA
    I hope, dad. I really hope.


    INT. LIBRARY.

    Mitchel is conversating with other adults about the
    outbreak. We can see Sarah playing a board game with Megan’s
    son, Liam.

    LIAM
    I want to go home.

    SARAH
    Aww me too. We will be able to go
    home soon.

    LIAM
    Why are they keeping us here?

    SARAH
    Just to make sure we’re all safe.

    LIAM
    Safe from what? My mommy told me it
    was a virus.

    SARAH
    Yeah, she’s right. No one knows
    what kind of virus it is.

    LIAM
    I’m scared...seeing mommy scared
    makes me scared.

    SARAH
    We’re all a little scared.

    LIAM
    I thought grown-ups weren’t afraid
    of anything.

    SARAH
    Well, adults can get scared just as
    easy as kids do.

    LIAM
    If they’re scared...will they still
    keep us away from the stupid
    monsters?

    SARAH
    (giggles a bit)
    I’m sure your mom will do
    everything she can. Just like my
    dad.

    LIAM
    Is he scared too?

    SARAH
    Yeah. He is. It’s okay though.

    LIAM
    Why?

    SARAH
    Because he’s still here with me.
    That’s why.

    (Beat)

    LIAM
    When we leave we should go outside
    and kick all the monsters’ butts!

    SARAH
    (laughs)
    I’m with you.


    INT. STAIRWELL.

    Kierra is walking down the stairs and sees Xavier sitting by
    himself. He’s staring at the wall, looking like he’s in deep
    thought. Kierra slowly approaches him.

    KIERRA
    I’m sorry to hear what happened.

    XAVIER
    It’s ok...

    (Beat)

    XAVIER (CNT’D)
    There’s just one thing getting to
    me.

    KIERRA
    What is it? Let me hear.

    XAVIER
    It’s Ryan...he has me questioning
    about what happened to her.

    KIERRA
    Why?

    XAVIER
    The kind of person he is...I just
    get a negative vibe when he’s near.
    Earlier at the locker rooms he
    threatened to push someone in with
    the infected...

    KIERRA
    Well what were they fighting about?

    XAVIER
    A stupid shower.

    KIERRA
    Hmm..well maybe it was just out of
    anger?

    XAVIER
    No. I don’t believe that at all.

    KIERRA
    I understand he can be hard headed,
    and no one likes him, but the
    thought of him...possibly killing
    Emily? For what?

    XAVIER
    I never said kill...but he hasn’t
    been showing any emotion about it.
    If he really loved her don’t you
    think he would’ve been more sad?

    KIERRA
    That makes sense...but...what do
    you plan to do?


    INT. GYM.

    Kierra and Xavier walk in the gym and see Phoenix, Juno and
    Craig smoking a cigarette by the bleachers. Couple of other
    survivors are in the gym as well.

    XAVIER
    Phoenix. Have a minute?

    PHOENIX
    For?

    KIERRA
    Are you guys really smoking in
    here?
    JUNO
    Times are tough right now. Want
    one?

    KIERRA
    No, I’m fine. Thanks.

    PHOENIX
    What is it, guys? Please, nothing
    to stress me out even more.

    XAVIER
    I just need to ask you something.

    PHOENIX
    Does this have anything to do with
    doors?

    XAVIER
    No. But I’m asking you this brother
    to brother. Please.

    (Beat)

    INT. CLASSROOM.

    Xavier, Phoenix and Kierra are in a private classroom.

    XAVIER
    It’s Ryan. I don’t trust him nor do
    I think he’s innocent.

    PHOENIX
    Innocent?

    XAVIER
    I heard him threaten someone by the
    locker room doors. I’m worried he
    might have done something to Emily.

    PHOENIX
    So what reason makes you believe
    that?

    XAVIER
    He said to the person he wanted to
    push them into a hoard of the
    infected...not only that, we barley
    see him in the school anymore.

    KIERRA
    He’s not even showing any emotion.
    If it was an accident why is he
    so...bland about it?

    PHOENIX
    So you want me to do...?

    (Beat)

    XAVIER
    I just want you to question
    him...try to get anything out of
    him.

    PHOENIX
    Why can’t you do it?

    XAVIER
    He’s scared of you. If you question
    him I’m sure he’ll spill out
    something that happened.

    PHOENIX
    (sighs)
    Well...since I have nothing better
    to do...I guess I will.

    XAVIER
    Thanks alot--

    PHOENIX
    Don’t mention it....I’m serious.

    KIERRA
    Where is he now?

    XAVIER
    I’m not sure. Last time I saw him
    were by the lockers.

    PHOENIX
    We’ll play the chicken and the fox.
    We’ll hunt for our prey.

    XAVIER
    Let’s get violent.

    PHOENIX
    That’s going to be alot of will
    power if I’m confronting that punk.

    XAVIER
    Once I find out what he did to
    Emily I will be right there with
    you. I want to reveal the person he
    truly is to everyone.

    KIERRA
    What’re you going to say to him?

    PHOENIX
    Don’t worry about that. I got it
    all planned out.

    XAVIER
    Alright...I’ll check by the lockers
    again.

    PHOENIX
    Come on. We’re wasting time we
    have.


    INT. COMMONS.

    Phoenix is walking through the commons and sees Jaxon and
    Michael walking toward the cafetria. He continues to walk
    through the commons and sees Ryan coming out the nurses’
    office.

    Ryan leans against the wall, in deep thought. He rubs his
    forehead and takes a deep breath.

    PHOENIX
    (to himself)
    His face has guilt written all over
    him.

    As Ryan’s about to leave, Phoenix approaches him.

    PHOENIX (CNT’D)
    Sup man?

    RYAN
    What the hell do you want?

    PHOENIX
    Whoa, take it easy. I just wanted
    to say thanks for going out there
    for us. That’s real brave of you.

    (Beat)


    PHOENIX (CNT’D)
    Must’ve been bad out there, huh?

    RYAN
    Words can’t describe.

    PHOENIX
    I’m sorry about Emily.

    Pause.

    RYAN
    Thanks...I guess.

    PHOENIX
    What happened back there?

    RYAN
    What the hell do you care? You
    barley know her.

    PHOENIX
    Not only DID I know her, my whole
    family did. She’s cool with my
    brother. You seriously need to
    chill.

    RYAN
    That’s great. Look, what happened,
    happened. There’s nothing I can do
    now.

    PHOENIX
    Was there something you COULD’VE
    done...?

    (Beat)


    EXT. ROAD.

    We see Emily running through a bunch of abandoned cars on
    the road. Zombies are chasing her. She’s screaming and
    yelling for help. She trips and falls over a legless zombie
    trying to get her.

    Emily yells and kicks the zombie’s face in. Before the hoard
    could grab her, she quickly crawls away and picks herself
    back up to run again.

    INT. COMMONS.

    Cuts back to Ryan and Phoenix. Ryan is tripping over the
    beginning of his sentence. Phoenix watches closley.

    RYAN
    If there was something I could do,
    don’t you think she would be here??
    I did everything I could!

    PHOENIX
    What happened to her...?

    Ryan holds his head and tries snapping out of the running
    thoughts in his head.


    EXT. ROAD.

    We see Emily, out of breath still running from the hoard. As
    she’s running, a zombie comes from the side and tackles her
    to the ground. She slips and falls, hitting her side on the
    car.

    She quickly picks herself up, as zombies are right on her
    tail, slowly gaining on her.


    INT. COMMONS.

    RYAN
    All she had to do was take my
    hand...

    We see a clip of Ryan leaving Emily behind at the back room
    from the grocery store.

    RYAN (CNT’D)
    If only she ran a few seconds
    faster...she wouldn’t have--

    Olivia is by her doorway, and heard everything. Ryan and
    Phoenix look at her.

    OLIVIA
    Am I interupting?

    RYAN
    Yes.

    PHOENIX
    No. He was just leaving.

    Ryan looks at Phoenix and walks away. Olivia and Phoenix
    watch him walk away, then look at each other.


    INT. HALLWAY.

    Phoenix and Olivia are walking in the hall, heading to the
    classroom Xavier and Kierra were in.

    OLIVIA
    There’s just something about him I
    find real funny.

    PHOENIX
    Yeah, I think we’re the only ones
    who are getting the hunch feeling.

    OLIVIA
    He’s been very suspicious acting
    ever since he got back with Jaxon.

    PHOENIX
    Just when I thought he couldn’t get
    any worse as a person...

    They spot Xavier by the water fountain, getting something to
    drink. They both approach him.

    PHOENIX (CNT’D)
    Where’s Kierra?

    XAVIER
    She went to the library. You find
    Ryan?

    PHOENIX
    Sure did. I really couldn’t get
    anything out of him, but...he’s
    guilty of something. We could tell.

    XAVIER
    Wow. I didn’t trust him from the
    start. I knew Emily should’ve
    stayed away from him.

    OLIVIA
    So what are we going to do? He’s
    going to stick to that "story" no
    matter what.

    PHOENIX
    I’ll beat it out of him.

    XAVIER
    I don’t care...but I’m not going
    down without a fight. I just want
    to show how much of a jackass he
    really is.

    PHOENIX
    He’s no more dangerous then the
    infected out there.

    OLIVIA
    Well, as long as we stick
    together--

    She’s interupted by Michael running to them.

    MICHAEL
    OLIVIA! Where’s Jaxon???

    OLIVIA
    I-I don’t know-the office maybe?
    Why?

    He runs to the stairwell. Olivia, Phoenix and Xavier quickly
    follow him.


    INT. COMMONS.

    We see the four running to the office. Olivia, Phoenix and
    Xavier see that Michael has told Jaxon something. Jaxon
    quickly gets up and runs out the office.

    JAXON
    MICHAEL! GET MY WEAPONS! Olivia,
    take these boys to their dad, away
    from here!

    OLIVIA
    Why? What’s going on??

    JAXON
    Just do as I say!

    He hurries to the lobby.

    OLIVIA
    Wait!!

    She follows him. After a second, Phoenix and Xavier follow
    her in the lobby as well.

    EXT. ROOFTOP.

    Trevor has his rifle out, taking shots. From his POV, he’s
    shooting zombies near the school with the rifle.


    INT. LOBBY.

    Olivia looks outside and covers her mouth. Phoenix and
    Xaiver are staring in shock, not believing what they’re
    seeing.

    From afar, Emily is stumbling to the school, as a hoard of
    zombies are chasing her.

    XAVIER
    Emily...!!!

    OLIVIA
    Oh my God!

    PHOENIX
    What the hell are you guys waiting
    for!

    Jaxon, Officer Carlos and Michael are reloading their guns
    and getting ready quickly.

    OLIVIA
    Jaxon, anyone give me a gun.

    JAXON
    Olivia, there’s no time.

    OLIVIA
    My thoughts exactly.

    She snatches Officer Carlos’ gun. He goes to take it back
    but Olivia points the gun to him.

    OLIVIA (CNT’D)
    Don’t stop me. Don’t you dare.

    JAXON
    Olivia!!

    Olivia runs out the school. Jaxon sighs, grabs his shotgun
    and heads out with Michael. Xavier follows.

    PHOENIX
    Xavier! What the hell are you
    doing??

    Phoenix, last minute, chooses to follow him out the school.
