The Tell-Tale Heart Alternate Ending
By: Angelina Dequina/ xviolxbloomsx
My heart thumped within me, as the guilty rage of the tell-tale heart spread through my blood.
“I can bear it no more!” I cried in the shadows of the two utterly stunned police officers. They stared at me in horror as I foamed on of the beating heart below their very feet.
I could hear the heart, ever so slightly, as the madness within me grew like a disease. It beated with no mercy, laughing the sound into my infected ears. I was suddenly shunned into reality, for I knew not why.
I took the opportunity. Seizing the rickety door knob and slyly, oh so sly, sliding through the thin door, plunging myself into the realm of darkness within the gothic hallway.
The Old Man’s face came into my head. Staying there as I examined his filthy appearance.
Filthy was it? Yes, for I shrieked into the night like a yelping dog imagining the wicked evil eye that was bestowed upon his wrinkled face. My hands cupped my face as I sinked my fingers into my eyeballs. Spilling gory blood on the carpet which the Old Man himself walked on.
Lunatic was I? For sure this was true as I bolted down the hallway, two muddy faced police officers yelling after me in despair, “STOP!” They halted.
But halt I did not, still laughing down the hallway, thunder booming through the windows and lightning crashing at the door as my adrenaline speeded faster! Making me stronger! Mad was I? Why will you say that I am Mad?
I am but a man, scurrying down from his worst fear. As you would scurry from the depths of hell if you were shunned there this very minute. It’s very simple you see, I am but a lunatic, keeping his pace by a daily dose of blood spilt on his very face! HA!
I cocked my head backward, viewing those desperate police men as they chased me in the game of cat and mouse. What uncivilized gentlemen, surely, they would know that such a man as cunning as me could never be caught! “Fools!” I laughed.
The time had come, I was near the hefty doors of my exit into freedom. Such a madman could never do a thing! Well this madman had done that very thing!
I stumbled forth as the door opened to my own blood, opening like a portal I was meant to through all my wretched life. Alas! I have escape the fight of the helpless law devils!
Trudging forth in a blast, I ducked to a nearby rosebush which the old man so bitterly watered from time to time. I could taste the buttery flavor of murder on my own lips as I dug my nails into the soil. Blood, once again, salted from my shirt, to the lushly dark soil.
I squealed ever so lightly, as the police flickered their flashlights to and from the thorny bushes. Cowards! I chanted relentlessly beneath the bushes.
Finally, I could take no more, as I sprung from the deathly red roses, using the sharply edged knife I had stolen from the Old Man’s pockets to stab one staggering police officer. I smiled a cunning, very, very cunning, smile in the shocks of the night as he fell to the floor, limp and lifeless!
My smile had been spattered by the police man’s ichory blood. My teeth tasted sweet with the tinge of savory fresh blood. Licking it, I turned toward the next prisoner, do you still believe this is mad? Well it will soon get madder.
The tip of my blade glinted like water in the grudging moonlight, my hands itched with the desire of death as I drove the blade half way home.
Hark! Success was not mine, for I had struck myself, my very own self, with the blade for which I so carelessly thought had killed my next hunger.
I staggered. As the feel of my own blood ran into my shirt, taunting and tickling at my murderous thoughts.
The police man cuffed me, my dagger sharp hands! Forcing me forward like a dog under his control. Who was this man! Surely I shall have my revenge!
~*~
I am not gone, foul one. I stand on this drenched, horrifically grand prison floor!
The dagger which had tricked me with moonlight, and trick will not whilst I travel away from this land of imprisonment, had only struck me with so little, very little, force to kill me!
I looked around, seeing that I was in a prison. Wearing a tattered suit labeled “Poe Asylum”.
Ha! Do they actually think I will not escape? These robes that bound me can be easily chewed of their rid! I hall make my escape with my first action, to which begins my epic madness.
But fail did my plans, as a dark, slim figure approached my iron wrought cell. It wore an apron as white as an albino rabbit. Odd, we he.
The figure reached its hand out, grabbing my shirt pocket gently. He emerged out of the pocket with ease. Showing me what it so shamelessly hid.
There it was. Beating like a newborn child in the flush of night. It was the heart. The Old Man’s lifeless heart.
I was breathless as the figure stepped forward hence again. Showing clearly his appearance. Which consisted of dark hair, toddled up like a tidy man, and a dark mustache, twitching at his expressionless lips.
The figure had a tag. A sewn tag. One that said “Edgar A. Poe”.
Now my life was shaken. Doomed was my fate. I stared at Edgar. The man who had created it all, “So you’re the tell-tale heart?” He said.

Description:
This is a ending for Edgar Allan Poe's short story The Tell Tale Heart. I had whipped it up from a random thought, and decided to share it with fellow Gaians. I DO NOT own the story The Tell Tale Heart, it was written by Edgar Allan Poe himself, I just own the ALTERNATE ENDGING shown in this submission.
Anyways, share what you think! I'm not NEARLY as good as Edgar, but I would like to hear your overall thinking of it. (No critique please) - Date: 06/05/2011
