My eyes snapped open. In a millisecond, my brain is able to process the following:
It's dark, I am still alive, I have been sleeping on concrete floors, I have just escaped from East-Side Prep, and I am a runaway. My ears strained as I heard subtle tapping echoing through the long corridor. Fearing the worst, I jumped to my feet and do a quick 360 of my surroundings. I realized it was pretty idiotic, since I'm in a hallway. Straining to hear more footsteps, I tilted my head as if it would help. But instead of feet against the cold pavement, I hear voices. "Find her! She has to be close!" A man barked, followed by the shuffling of feet. This jolts me into action. I bolt around the corner and slam right into one of the guards I heard earlier. He grabed my arm and I twist free, ducking behind him. I dodge the next guard and sprint through the long hallways until I’m positive that I’ve lost them. I slouch down against the rusty pipes that line the wall. Rolling up my sleeve I see a red mark where the man grabbed me. I clench my teeth as I remember East-Side. Those men where every where, but not as brutal. I flinched as cool droplets of water landed on my neck from the leaking pipe above me. Searching my brain for the information I needed, my hands seemed to clench the harder I thought. My head snapped up in realization. “24 Delmont avenue.” I whisper to myself. Rising to my feet, I turn in the direction of the end of the tunnel. “I’m coming.”
