The early evening breeze tousled her soft auburn hair as she knelt beside the grave, holding a small bunch of flowers. I stood in front of her, under the shade of a tree, watching her tears fall onto the gravel. I wished I could comfort her. I yearned to hold her in my arms, dry her tears and tell her it would be okay. I walked slowly over to her.
“Amber.” I said.
She didn’t look up. I knelt down beside her and lifted my hand to stroke her hair. She shivered as my fingers brushed her cheek and I quickly withdrew my hand. Mustn’t let her know I’m here. I watched the tears rolling down her cheeks. Her father called her from the car. She looked up, and then looked back down at the grave.
“I love you, Tyler.” She whispered.
She placed the flowers on the grave, then reluctantly stood up and moved away, towards the gates of the cemetery. I watched her walk away.
“I love you too, Amber.”
