Tracing Paper and Fisheyes
-
Humans, in general, are a rather stupid race. They fear that which they cannot explain, force themselves to believe one thing so that they don't have to accept the truth of a given situation. They are, essentially, worthless.
They can, after all, only truly perceive that which they know for certain exists. So, for a general rule in the matter, they remain oblivious to the truth of the world around them. They cannot truly see that which resides next to them. For the world that humanity knows is only one half of a story. Think of it like a sketch, where the world as you know it is clearly defined in pencil upon the crisp whiteness of the paper. There is a parallel reality that lives layered upon our world. Like tracing paper over the sketch. It is there, it exists, but if one isn't truly paying attention, it's nearly impossible to see.
And in this Parallel word, live Parallel people. They remain unaffected by our world, just as we remain unaffected by theirs. In fact, it's a strong belief that we were meant to share the world, but never to cross paths knowingly. Of course, that doesn't stop it from happening.
There are few people in the world with the ability to see this Parallel truth. But most of the time, they themselves are unable to accept what they are able to see as reality. Their visions of this second earth are distorted, twisted in their minds as if they are looking threw a Fisheyed lens. More often then not they are driven mad, torn apart by their gifts until they cannot form a coherent thought. Normal society finds these people. Labels them, medicates them until they become numb to the Parallel word and are once again able to rejoin the world as a "Normal Person". Of course, they really are just regular people, who just so happen to move closer in sink with the world then others.
And then there are us.
We are genetically altered beings, who's bodies have been modified since birth to be able to view and accept both worlds as reality. Born from test tubes and raised in labs, were are used as viewing devices, as a sort of telescope that can peer into the alternate world as we please. The changes that are required by the body are forced upon us as fetuses, an act that has adverse side effects as we develop. Some simply die in utero. Some live for mere moments before the strain of live becomes to much on the body. Some live to early adolescence, before they rip out their own ears to make the voices go away.
But a rare few have grown to adulthood. We have become strong. We know that this game they play must be stopped. That these people cannot be allowed to make full contact with the Parallel earth. The seven of us that have survived have been biding our time, formulating our plot until we are able to finally escape. Because once we are out of this rat-lab we have been forced to call home, we will only come back to bring an end to this hideous experiment.
