I had been daydreaming all day. Every fantasy and thought that ran through my mind churned, and twisted my stomach. I felt too sick to go to school, but mom would most defiantly not let me stay home just because I wasn't feeling well. So I did what any normal teen would do:
"Bye mom, I'll see you when I get back from school." I had said, gripping my bag a little more tighter than usual, my gut felt like it was ready to burst.
"See you, Kaitie dear."
I walked out and instead of taking my usual left to the bus stop, I kept heading straight, going toward my favorite place in the spring time. The apple tree behind Monica's old house. After she moved to Canada, no one has bought the house. It was too old. We had so many great memories there though.
Monica was my old elementary school best friend. She had a small garden behind her house that her mom would take care of, but after she died, Monica would tend to it like it was a child to her. I would help her, and somewhere within all of those days, I fell in love with flowers. Of any kind. The aroma, their soft petals, and pastel colors, blowing in the slight breezes. Those are the kind of days I miss the most.
It was during one of those days that we planted the withering sprout of a tree that The Apple Tree now is today.
I sat there, and looked at all the flowers that were only still living, and breathing because three times every week I would stop by her house, and take care of them. Sometimes my new best friend, Alice, would help me.
I met Alice in the 6th grade.
It was right after my father had left us (my mother and I that is) and my mom had developed a horrible drinking habit, which is the only reason she wont get the call from the high school asking where Miss Kaitlyn Keyheart is on this lovely Wednesday afternoon. It is why she will be drunk when I get home, it is why I'll have to clean and cook, and do all the housework myself while she laughs at any attempt I have at making life a little easier on me. Her, being an alcoholic, won't care about living in a pigsty, as long as there's food, and a good 6 pack of beer.
She has me to thank for that.
I was about to drift off to a nice sleep when I heard a high pitched girly voice call out my name.
"Kait! Why weren't you in school today?"
"Alice," I said carrying out her name, complaining slightly that she had to wake me up in such a childish manner. "I'm not feeling well."
"Ha-ha, you just didn't want to take Mr.Niles test today didn't you? You never study for history."
"No, I really don't feel good." I said, covering my eyes, trying to block out the sun glaring at me, like it was one of my teachers upset because I decided to play Hookey.
"Oh, is it like those times that you feel really sick before something bad happens? I swear Kaitlyn, you must be psychic or something." Alice said standing in front of me, thank god she was, the sunlight was starting to get on my nerves.
"Maybe, it sure feels like it."
Okay, so here's what Alice is talking about. Before something really bad, or really good happens, I get a queezy, sick feeling in my stomach. Really bad cramps, and huge migraines like to accompany my drowsiness, and sick feelings I get. Don't believe me? Okay, here's some examples:
I felt like this before,
Monica's mother died,
Monica moved,
My father leaves my mother to take care of a bratty 10 year old. (me.)
My mom began drinking,
I met Alice (these are the good thing's now)
I got my first boyfriend (It was the boy I had a crush on forever too)
And also when I broke up with my first boyfriend. (turns out he was a huge jerk.)
(He was also my only boyfriend. Stupid 7th graders.)
"So want to go on a walk to the mall? Maybe a new pair of skinny jeans will make everything okay." Alice said, shopping was this blondes favorite thing to do.
I loved to shop alot too.
When Alice and I are together, everybody thinks were related.
We both have Blonde hair and Blue eyes. And we both love skinny jeans, converse, colorful shoelaces, and mismatching socks. We both had long hair going down the bottom of our backs. Only I wore contacts because I stepped on my glasses one night while sleeping over Alice's. I also loved skirts and dresses, something you wouldn't expect from someone like me.
We like the same kinds of music, and the same kind of boys. We both loved video games, only I was better than her. I had a passion for writing, and she enjoyed painting. We were inseparable.
"Fine, but if we go to Pac Sun and I find a really cute hoodie for 20 bucks, your buying it for me."
"Don't you have any money?" She asked in her 8 year old voice.
"No, I spent it on those knee high converse."
"Lucky! You said you would get me those when you had enough.!"
"I never said I only bought one pair." I said laughing with my best friend. Just like any other girl. Too bad I didn't know my life would be like any other girl's for long.
