Donnie Chaplin - he's such a sweet boy and very cute too - when he sleeps his face takes on an angelic form and he just looks so damn peaceful. Tonight he looks anything but peaceful. He grimances and his expressions constantly change from a mixture of rage and hatred to confussion and fear. I want nothing more than to go over and comfort him by stroking his cheek softly but I can't. He doesn't know I'm here, watching him from under his bed.
Now he begins to murmur, his lips parting ever so slightly as he does. He has his head propped up against the window panes. His black hair falling delicately over his face and in the light of the full moon his hair looks almost blue. This effect only adds to his angelic features. How could one harm such an innocent boy? I don't think it to be possible at all then I think about his father and a burning sensation engulfs my throat and mind until I hear my name being called by Donnie. "Christofer? Drew? Where did you go?" he whispers. His eyes twitch as if he is going to wake up but he never does. I sigh in relief and continue to watch the boy sleep.
I can hear his blood pulsing steadily and slowly as if edging me to reveal myself... I can smell it and it smells amazing- so enticing. I have to stop thinking like that. With the tip of my tongue I touch one of my fangs. They are protruding slightly. Dammit! I would have to ask my older brother, Gabriel- who is a doctor- to make a trip to the blood bank soon. For now the urge is bareable but it won't be in a week or so. Right now what isn't bareable is that my wings are falling asleep. Yeah, I'm a vampire with black fairy-like wings. Got a problem with that? Too bad just suck it.
Okay just to clarify a few things:
1) Just because I'm a vampire doesn't mean I skip out on my breakfast (usually just a quick bag of blood).
2) Yes, I live with my vampire/doctor brother.
3) I do NOT sleep in a coffin- in fact I don't sleep at all.
4) I can to go out in the sun- as long I wear sunscreen (I always keep some handy in my pocket)- but only for short periods of time.
5) My wings *cough cough* dissolve in sunlight and reappear at night. [Don't ask me how or why that happens bucause I don't know.]
The rest of the night is uneventful but it comforts me to know that Donnie is content in his dreams. He normally wakes up at five-thirty. When he does, I steal out of his bedroom window and fly home. Sadly this is not the case this morning. For some reason Donnie doesn't wake up until six, meaning that I only have about eight minutes to wait for him to truely wake up, gather his clothes and get his stuff to take his shower, then I have maybe three minutes left to sneak out the window and fly home. Totally easy (all sarcasm intended).
When he is finally out of the room I creep over to the window, my wings flexing after an entire night of being tucked under me. I quickly open the window and within a good fifteen seconds I'm in the air and the window is locked again. My wings automaticlly begin to move in graceful swooping motions, cupping the air in order to keep me airborne. I slowly make my way down to the ground. Just as soon as there is three feet of separting me from the ground I see the sun rising. As the sunlight touches my wings I can feel them begin to dissolve into nothing. Damn! I hadn't thought this would happen. Next thing I know, I'm facedown in the grass and I'm just kind of laying there. I mentally kick my a** for not flying faster. God! This was so embarrassing even though no one really saw me. I'm a vampire, dammit, and I can't even fly to the ground before I fall in the grass and stain my paints green with chlorophyl! Some vampire I am.
Damn, damn, damn. Now I was going to have to call Gabriel and tell him that I was watching Donnie sleep and he was not going to be happy to hear that I was doing that again. He constantly warns me that one day I would be found out for what I really am if do this but I ignore him. I climb up the nearest tree for shade because the light was beginning to burn my skin. I stay there for a while procrastinating what I should do which of coarse would be to call my brother and ask him to pick me up with sunscreen and a change of clothes. Then I suppose he would insist on driving my a** to school because he didn't want me to take any more risks that could endanger our existence. Relutantly I pull my cell phone out of my back pocket and begin to call him.
"Christofer where the hell are you?" Gabriel's vioce greets me. "Umm... Well I'm kinda in a tree at Donnie's house and I was wondering whether you could pick me up and bring sunscreen and a change of clothes." I whispered, praying that no one was within earshot because Gabriel was going to start yelling. "What?! Donnie's hou- Damn you're lucky that you have an older brother or else you'll be spending half your life hiding in trees for that boy!" His manner was more teasing than angry so that was a very good sign for me. "Yes, I know. I love you too, now can you please come over?" I ask politely. "Ugh; Yes, just give me like thirty minutes." he murmured, slightly annoyed. Then he hung up. That's the fun part of being the younger brother; you get to annoy the hell out of your older brother.
It didn't even matter if I was late to my class before school, the concept was so easy that I could get perfect scores on everything but I had to seem normal so I sometimes faked get failing grades and still manaaged to get perfect scores on all of my tests.
I sit in the tree continueing to think of Donnie and how beautiful he was when he slept. The way he would sometimes talk in his sleep and how he would wake up for just a few seconds, then go back to sleep. That boy was far too adorable for his own good but I still loved him nonetheless- even though I didn't show it at school. If he ever knew that I watched him when he slept, how would he feel? Terrified probably.
Thirty minutes later my cell rings and I know it's Gabriel so I merely jump out of the tree and walk to the car pulled up in front of the house. A funny fact about vampires is that they can endure sunllight, just not for long periods of time. When I climb into the backseat I see a fresh pair of clothes, a bottle of sunscreen and a blood bag all stacked neatly upon each other. The first thing I do when I see the blood bag is sink my fangs into it. When I did this a flood of delicious blood flooded my mouth and I continued to drink until it was all gone. "Thanks, bro." I say wiping my mouth with the back of my hand and licking it as well. "Yeah, yeah. Now get dressed and put on your sunscreen." He said waving his hand passively.
When I was finished he did exactly what I had predicted: he drove me to school. I hated being in a car because it felt so uneventful. I stuck my head out of the window (after rolling it down obviously) just to feel the wind whip at my face. If I closed my eyes it felt almost as if I were flying at top speed, but it felt so artificial. I tried to enjoy the ten minutes with my brother but I he was in a bit of a bad mood so I decided just sticking my head out the window would be smart of me. How wierd that must sound. Before we reached the school I made it a point to remind Gabriel to go to the blood bank. "I know I need to go and I will. I'll try to go it tomorrow." And that was the end of our lovely conversation. We arrived at the school at six-fifty meaning I still had ten minutes before my class started. Great, just great...
Just as soon as Gabriel's car is out of sight I make the last minute decision to ditch my early class and just chill out in a tree for a while. The more I thought about it, the more I felt like just ditching until the end of lunch and coming back. Gabriel would write me a note and I would be excused. I quickly climbed a tree so no one would see me.
I lay cradled in the branches until I realize something; there was something with me and trees. I always climbed up one when I was hiding, or feeling any form of discomfort. I wonder why I do this for a while until coming up with nothing so I decide to just lay here watching the birds and airplanes go by. How I wished it were night and I had my wings so I could fly about just as the pilots and the birds...
The bell rings for lunch and I realized I just wasted five hours in a tree. Wow... I must be some interesting boy. I soon hear voices floating up to me from the front doors. I immediatly identify them to be the voices of Donnie, Alexander and Krispy. Why were they out here? Didn't they eat lunch like normal humans? Their voices get louder until I realize that they have choosen my tree to sit under. For the second time today I mentally kick my butt, this time for ditching... then again this could give me a valuable insight of what kind of stuff Donnie's into. I listen closely.
"... So do you know why Christofer isn't here today, Donnie?" Krispy asks. "Not a clue." He replies cooly as if he doesn't really care about my absense. "I bet you do." Alex says, poking Donnie playfully in the ribs. "I actually don't... Besides why should I care? The b*****d always tries to detroy my self confidence in some way, shape or form." he shrugs. "Oh puh-leez! Try telling that to someone who doesn't know you. You like him and you just don't want to admit it." Alex says smiling broadly. "And why would I do that?" Donnie asks stubornly. "'Cause he looks kinda hot, has a pretty good personality and you know he only teases you because he likes you. And if you don't go for him... I will." Hmm... I had to hand it to Alex; he was pretty smart when it came to depicting body language and actions. "No way in hell am I going to admit that." "Krispy? A little help here?" Alex pleads. "Sure thing. Donnie, you do realize that you did not deny or disagree with what we just said about Christofer and you, right?" Krispy states. Donnie flushes and he looks more adorable with his pink cheeks. "Umm...." he trails off.
Did this mean that he might just like me? Score for Christofer! Abandoning a sudden urge to cheer for myself I go back to listening in. "Ha! We win!" Alex high-fives Krispy. "Okay, okay. Just don't tell anyone." a shy and embarrassed Donnie murmurs. "Who are we going to tell? We are all social outcasts together." Krispy smiles. "Still. I don't need rumors going around." he whispers to the ground. "Sure, sure." they both agree to keep it a secret.
They begin talking about classes so I tune them out now that the interesting part is all over. I can't believe it! Donnie actually likes me. ME! I wanted to jump out of the tree and kiss him right then but I know that I shouldn't, therefor I do not. Still, Donnie Chaplin actually has a crush on me!
