Potion
The boy of fifteen raced into the room after hearing the explosion from down the hall. His sister was working on a potion in the room. He entered the room, he waved smoke away from his face. The coughing that entered his ears made the boy sigh in relief. He even smiled when he finally saw the brown haired girl.
Her brown hair, reaching to her mid-back, was now burnt and almost black. Her pale face was covered in soot. Her black witch robes was burnt through showing her green tank and blue jeans underneath. Her green eyes landed on him as the smoke began to clear.
“Are you ok?” He asked bringing his sister into his arms. She was surprised, and began telling him she was fine in between coughs. “Was it another...another wolf potion.” He whispered letting her go. She nodded and smiled.
“I think I have it. Well, not yet,” She said grabbing her robes in her hands and walking over to the cauldron, muck now filled it. “but I know, or think I do. I think if I don't add the bears' blood and instead add wolves' or rabbits' it will work. I'm positive.” With that the fourteen year old girl raced to get a new cauldron from a soot covered cabinet along with all sorts of bottles.
“Look, Abby, don't worry about it, ok.” He said trying to stir the muck with a wooden spoon.
“Don't worry about what?” She asked totally bewildered, she had began measuring things out.
“Don't worry about trying to find a cure for me. It's not that big of a deal.” He said walking over to the table she now stood at. She was looking at him now.
“I'm so close to finding it, you know. Plus, it's a big deal to me and it is to you too. Don't lie to me.” She went back to mixing ingredients to what she thought was a cure to being a werewolf. For all he knew, it could be, but this took up all Abby's time now...and it was hurting her. His own green eyes went to the patch of soaked black robe at Abby's shoulder. She hadn't event noticed it was bleeding.
“You're right it is a big deal, because what I am now killed Mom and Dad.”
“Yeah and because it hurts you to kill.” She said pouring a deep blue liquid into her mixture. He couldn't say anything to that, it did hurt. He did wish he didn't have to, but sometimes the wolf just craves it. His fist tightened and he moved to her side of the table. “Ok, this, this is rabbits' blood. It's either this or wolf.” She smiled as she let the red liquid drop into the mixture. It bubbled and out of reaction, Zane pulled her down and behind a desk.
“Zane!” She said pulling herself to her feet, “Nothing happened.” He got to his own feet and followed her back to the cauldron.
“It could of, it did last time.” Zane stated trying to make a defense for himself.
“Thats because it was bears' blood, they're more, well, mean. I added rabbits' this time remember.” She said stirring the now orange mixture. “Sometimes, I swear you aren't a wizard.” She giggled and grabbing a vile she filled it with the orange liquid. “You're going to have to drink it. It will either cure you or not, so its gonna be an easy yes or no if it did anything.” She handed him the vile. He swallowed it in one gulp. Nothing, he could still hear the wolf's howling in the back of his mind. He shook his head.
“Sorry, but look you-” He started to say but Abby had already gone back to her cauldron, not hearing what he said.
“Don't worry I'll fix it.” She said cleaning the cauldron out.
“Abby.” Zane's voice came out in a desperation.
“What?” She asked, not turning to him,she heard the worry in his voice.
“I'm not broken.” The bottle in her hand slipped through, it landed on the ground in shattered pieces. She stared at her brother, he was staring back.
