• Keep No Secrets

    ~Secret~

"It's a beautiful night." Shona whispered as the soft breeze blew her hair out of her face.
"Yes, it is." Pooh, Shona’s best friend, whispered back.
She was leaning against him as he stroked her soft, black hair like she was a puppy.
"Hey Pooh," Shona paused as she sat up.
"What's up?" He asked puzzled, and slowly examined his friend.
Shona had shoulder length, black hair with soft blue eyes.
She was wearing a dark purple shirt with blue jeans.
"Can you keep a secret?" Shona asked interrupting his thoughts.
    "Sure."
"I...umm...never mind...." Shona's voice trailed off.
"Are you sure? You know you can tell me anything." Pooh assured her.
She shook her head and bit her lip to stop herself from crying.
    Shona got up and smiled.
"Wanna take a walk?" She asked and helped Pooh up.
    "Okay." Was all he said.
'How will I ever tell him?' She thought and bit her lip even harder.
    "Shona, is something wrong?"
She quickly shook her head and kept walking.
Pooh laid a secure hand on her shoulder.
    Shona stopped walking.
"Something's wrong." It wasn't a question, but a statement that was true.
    "Really, I'm fine." She whispered.
Shona couldn't talk or she would cry.
    Tears already filled her eyes.
Pooh turned her so she faced him.
"Shona, you can trust me." He whispered.
"I know." Shona tried so hard not to cry, but small tears escaped her eyes.
"I-I have to go, I'm sorry." Shona choked and stepped out of his hands and ran away from him.
"Shona..." Pooh whispered as he looked down.

    ***Kit***
'Why am I running away from him? Am I that stupid?' Shona thought as she continued to run.
'Where am I even going?' She decided that a nice quiet place to think and understand her feelings would be good right about now.
'I should go visit Kit.' She thought and tried to dry her tears, but more ran down her face to quickly replace them.
Soon she was walking towards a small field.
The field had flowers everywhere with a lot of trees and a small pond.
'Perfect for my baby.' Shona thought and climbed over the fence.
    Shona paused and looked around.
'Where is she?' She thought and sang a soft tune.
"The night has come now, the sun has gone to rest..." Shona paused and heard a soft whinny.
"All birds stopped singing, hiding in their nest..." She heard another whinny and saw Kit.
Shona smiled with tears still dripping.
The small, black filly galloped over to Shona.
"The stars are sparkling, in the deep blue sky..." She whispered and softly stroked the little filly's nose.
"For the man in the moon hill, can hear the tide inside..." Kit neighed softly and sat down to hear her lullaby.
"Hush now Baby, it's time to go to sleep, mummy and daddy have counted all the sheep.
Hush now baby, don't you cry, Mummy and Daddy are always by your side." Shona wiped her tears and sang the rest of the lullaby to Kit, who seemed to be listening
    Intently.

"The playground to still now, Shadows dance around.

Raindrops are falling softly to the ground; Tomorrow's waiting for some that in her hand.

More time to play and draw pictures in the sand.

Hush now baby, it's time to go to sleep..." Shona finished and laid her head on Kit who was quietly Eating a near by flower.
"That was beautiful..." A voice said.
It made Shona and Kit both jump.
"Pooh? Why are you here?" Shona asked and looked up at him.
    She examined him closely.
His hair was a dark brown, with sad blue eyes.
He was wearing a blue t-shirt with blue jeans.
"I kinda followed you here..." Pooh interrupted her thoughts.
"I wanted to be sure that you made it home safe, but then I saw you turn and-"
    "Pooh," She interrupted him.
    "Hm?"
"I'm sorry I ran away from you. I didn't mean too. I just...It's hard to..." Shona sighed and stroked her sleeping filly.
"Please can you just tell me? I promise I won't be mad." Pooh said and stepped over the fence to sit by Shona.
    "It's not bad..." She admitted.
"Then why can't you tell me?" Pooh asked as he stroked her arm.
Shona got goose bumps and blushed a little.
"Because I'm scared you won't feel the same way." She whispered trying to keep from crying.
"Feel the same way? What do you mean?" He asked confused again.
"Pooh, I-I really like you." Shona said and immediately looked away.
"Huh?" Pooh smirked and grabbed Shona's chin in his hands.
"Shona, I really like you too." Pooh whispered and brushed his lips against hers.
"In fact, I love you." He whispered into her lips.
Shona's heart beat faster and faster. 'Pooh really loves me?' She thought.
They didn't kiss they just sat there with their lips close together.

    ***Meeting Meeku***
Shona woke up to Pooh stroking her hair softly.
    "Good morning." He whispered.
    "Good morning." Shona whispered back.
    She giggled.
"What's so funny?" Pooh asked confused...again.
"I bet Kit didn't like us sleeping in her field." Shona said and looked around.
"She's over by the pond." Pooh said, nodding towards Kit.
"She's a beautiful horse. She reminds me of you." He said.
    Shona blushed.
"Where did you find her?" Pooh asked still stroking her hair.
"In this field. Her mother was no where in sight and I just decided to keep her." Shona said.
"How long have you had her?"
    "Hmm...about a year."
"How come you never told me you had a horse?" Pooh asked.
"I don't know. I just kinda space when I'm with you." Shona said.
"Is it my good looks? Or my sexy charm?" Pooh asked playfully.
    Shona laughed.
    "Both!" She said.
"What else don't I know about you?" Pooh asked.
    "Hmm...I don't know ask me a question."
    "Do you have any siblings?"
    "Nope. Just little Ol' me!"
    Pooh smiled.
    "Do you?" Shona asked.
"It's just me and my little brother." Pooh sighed.
"Really? What's his name and how old is he?"
"His name is Meeku and he's 11 years old."
"So your seven years apart?" Shona assured.
    "Yep." Pooh smiled.
"Do you think I could meet him?"
"If you really want to..." Pooh's voice trailed off.
    Shona giggled.
"Well, what do we do now?" Pooh asked.
    "Let's visit Meeku!" Shona exclaimed.
    "Huh? Fine." Pooh sighed.
"Yes!" Shona teased and hopped up.
"Ugh." Pooh groaned as Shona helped him up.

    ***The Kiss***
Soon they were at Pooh’s house.
“Whoa. You have a big house!” Shona exclaimed amazed.
“Huh? It’s not that big.” Pooh said and put his arm around Shona.
“So where’s Meeku?” Shona looked around.
“Hmm…Hey Pipsqueak! Get out here! Shona wants to meet you!” Pooh shouted and smiled at Shona’s face.
“You call your brother like that?” Shona asked.
    “Yep.” Was all Pooh said.
“I’m that not little!” A kid’s voice came.
“If your smaller than me…your little.” Pooh said.
    “Yeah, whatever.”
Soon Shona was staring at Pooh’s little brother.
He had white hair longish hair, with big blue eyes and a toothy smile.
“Hello, you must be Shona. I’ve heard more than I needed to hear about you.” Meeku said and shook Shona’s hand.
    Pooh shoved him.
“What? You’ve told me so much I think I can recognize her in a mustache!” Meeku exclaimed.
“Is it good things?” Shona asked.
“Hmm…he says, ‘Her face looks like poo-“
“Meeku! Tell her the truth!” Pooh shouted.
“Okay, okay…he says, ‘Her face looks like poo-“
    “Meeku!”
“Fine! Sorry. ‘Her face looks like it was made from Angels.’ And ‘Her kiss leaves me wanting more!’ Gag. Or my favorite, ‘Her hair feels like Poo!’”
    Meeku laughed.
Pooh smacked him in the back of the head.
    “Siblings…” Pooh’s voice trailed off.
“I think he’s cute.” Shona said.
“So there! She thinks I’m cute and you? HA! Your nothin’ but CHOPED LIVER!” Meeku teased and ran in the house before Pooh could hit him again.
“Uh, sorry about that…” Pooh said and laughed nervously.
“That’s okay. Now I know where you get your charm from!” Shona teased.
“Huh? So I have the charm of an 8 year old? That’s not good…” Pooh said.
“But your kisses are of a sexy 18 year old.” Shona said still teasing.
“Oh really? Why don’t we test that theory?” Pooh asked and smirked as he leaned in.
Shona was shocked at his flirting; she didn’t know that he would actually kiss her.
But as soon as their lips met, she felt like fire. Shona felt a burst of heat from somewhere deep inside her.
She pulled closer to Pooh. He didn’t help her dizziness. She felt like she was on crack. All dizzy and woozy.
Shona didn’t understand it. Just the other day when their lips touched she hadn’t felt anything like this before.
‘What will happen to our friendship? Will it change?’ Shona thought and tried to focus on letting go of his shirt.
“S-stop!” She finally managed to say.
Pooh slowly leaned out and put his forehead on hers.
    They were both breathing hard.
“I-I’m so sorry Shona. I didn’t mean to.” Pooh tried to explain.
“Please, I don’t want our friendship to end because of a fight.” Shona whispered.
“Okay.” Pooh sounded a little bummed out.
    Shona felt kind of bad.
    “Maybe later. Not now. ‘Kay?”
“Okay.” Pooh agreed and took her into a hug.
“I’m sorry Pooh. I still love you.” Shona said as she rocked back and forth.
“It’s okay, I still love you too. I will just have to wait.” Pooh teased on the last part.
Suddenly they heard a soft tapping.
They looked up to see Meeku gagging out of the window.
    Shona laughed.
Pooh smirked and kissed her forehead to gross out Meeku.
Which worked, of course, he was running to the bathroom.
    “Siblings…”
    Shona giggled at his comment.

    ***Party Pooper***
    “Hey Pooh,” Shona paused.
    “What’s up?”
“Tomorrow, do you wanna see a movie?” She asked shyly.
“Huh? Sure.” Pooh said and stroked her hair.
    “What movie?” Pooh asked.
    “Umm…how about…Harry Potter?” Shona asked.
“Is that even in the theaters?”
    “Nope, sleep over!” Shona laughed.
Pooh looked at her with a confused looked.
    “A sleepover? I don’t do sleepovers…”
“Aw! Come on! It will be so much fun! And Meeku would have a great time!” Shona exclaimed.
“Ha-ha! A sleepover? At my house? That, that’s really funny.” Pooh said sarcastically.
“Please Pooh! I’ll be your best friend!” Shona teased.
“You already are my best friend…” Pooh said irritated.
“Great! That means you won’t mind if the sleepovers at your house!” Shona shouted and grabbed his hand and ran into his house.
“Meeku! Meeku! Your invited to the sleepover!” Shona shouted as soon as they were in the house.
“I didn’t give you permission to have a sleepover at my house.” Pooh said and crossed his arms over his chest.
“Don’t be such a party pooper! The poor girl wants a sleepover, plus I’m invited!” Meeku’s voice called.
    “Great, here comes the pipsqueak…”
“Pooh, don’t be so negative.” Shona said and gave him a little shove.
“I’m not being negative, I’m being-“
“A party pooper!” Meeku giggled as he came down the stairs.
“Yes, Meeku, I’m being a party pooper…” Pooh said sarcastically.
“Meeku, I’m trying to be responsible.”
“What do you mean?” Shona asked.
“I mean, it would be really hard not to kiss you in the middle of the night.” Pooh said without thinking.
    “Ew!” Meeku screeched.
Shona blushed and giggled at Meeku’s girly screech.
“Well don’t worry, because I’ll be the responsible one!” Shona said.
Then she remembered how hard it was to let go of his shirt just a while before.
“Huh? Fine.” Pooh sighed and gave in.
‘Oh no. This is not good.’ Shona thought.
She didn’t think that Pooh would give in that fast.
    “Yay!” Meeku shouted.
“I will get our beds ready! Ooh! We can watch the movie on the big screen! And we can stay up late and-“
“Go put your Pj’s on, I’m going to walk Shona to her house so she can get her stuff.” Pooh interrupted.
“Okay!” Meeku cried excitedly and ran back up stairs.
    ***Keep no Promises**
Soon Shona and Pooh were walking to her house.
Shona felt a little awkward sense Pooh had said; ‘It would be really hard not to kiss you in the middle of the night.’
    She shivered.
“Are you cold?” Pooh asked and draped his arm around her shoulder.
    “Yes.” She lied.
“Hey,” Pooh said in a tone that made Shona look at him.
“This was your idea.” He smirked.
    “I know.” Shona sighed.
    “What’s wrong now?” Pooh asked.
“It’s just that…that thing you said. It was kinda really weird.” Shona said and looked away.
“Oh, that. I’m sorry if I made you feel awkward. I wasn’t thinking.” Pooh said and put laid his head on hers.
“It’s fine.” Shona said and stared into space.
For a few minutes there was an awkward silence.
Shona felt like she was going to explode when they finally reached her house.
“Stay out here, I’ll be right back.” Shona said and slowly moved out of Pooh’s reach.
    “Okay.”
Shona smiled and opened the door, quickly shutting it.
“Where have you been? I’ve been waiting for you to come home all day!” A deep voice screeched.
“Sorry, I was just shopping.” Shona said and ran threw the kitchen and passed the living room.
She didn’t stop until she was in her room, with the door shut.
“Phew.” She sighed and started packing her stuff.
First, she stuffed an orange button up shirt with orange pants in the bag. She loved these pj’s because they had teddy bears on them.
Next, she put in a red shirt and faded shorts in the bag.
Last, she put her toiletries in the bag and zipped it up.
“Hmm…is that all?” She thought aloud.
“Who the heck are you?” The voice grumbled.
    Shona froze.
‘I told Pooh to stay outside!’ Shona thought and ran out of her room to see Pooh and her cousin standing face-to-face looking like they were ready
    to fight.
“Stop it!” Shona shouted and ran in between them.
“Shona who is this?” Nile, her Cousin asked.
“This is my friend, Pooh.” She said quietly trying to push pooh out the door. He didn’t budge.
“Pooh this is my cousin, Nile.”
“Huh?” Pooh spat and examined Nile.
He was short, but a little buff. He had black hair with pale eyes.
He was wearing a beer-stained shirt and faded jeans.
    “Pooh, let’s go.” Shona pushed.
“Where are you going?” Nile asked and snatched Shona’s arm.
    “Ow!” Shona shouted.
    “Let her go.” Pooh warned.
“Where are you going? Answer me!” Nile shouted.
“I’m going to Pooh’s house, I’ll be back in the afternoon tomorrow!” Shona said quickly.
Nile squeezed her arm tighter then shoved her into a wall.
“You better be home tomorrow.” He warned and went back to watching TV and drinking beer.
Then Shona pushed Pooh out the door, nearly tripping him.
“Why didn’t you tell me you lived with a drunk?” Pooh asked as soon as the door was closed.
“Pooh, he’s not a drunk, he’s my cousin.” Shona said, rubbing her temples.
“Why did you come in?” Shona asked.
“You were taking a while.” Pooh said.
“I told you to stay outside! Now he’ll have my butt tomorrow!” Shona shouted and shivered.
“Then don’t go home. You can stay with Meeku and I.”
“I can’t. He’ll hunt me down if I’m not home.” Shona shivered again.
“Shona, I don’t want him to hurt you.” Pooh said quietly.
“Promise me he won’t touch you.” Pooh whispered and looked into Shona’s eyes.
“I-I can’t…” She said and watched tears build up in his eyes.
“Please promise me that you will be safe.”
“Pooh, I can’t.” Shona whispered and tears of her own were building up.
“Then at least promise me that you will live until your 80.” Pooh had tears slowly run down his cheeks.
Shona and Pooh were face-to-face, crying for her life.
“I can’t.” Shona said slowly and saw Pooh laid his hands on her shoulders.
“Tell me everything he’s done to you.” Pooh choked.
    “I can’t tell, only show.”
“Show me at my house.” Pooh said quietly and pulled Shona into a hug.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“Because I didn’t want you to worry about me.” Shona said.
“Well, It’s hard not to worry when your life is in danger everyday.”
“Nile wouldn’t kill me.” Shona whispered.
“Shona,” Pooh said and grabbed her chin in his hands, so she was looking in his eyes.
“You never know, Shona. One day he could get too drunk and-“ Pooh swallowed. He couldn’t finish.
“I’m sorry Pooh.” Shona whispered. A sob got caught in her chest.
“Shona, just stay safe.” Pooh whispered and leaned in to kiss her, but as soon as their lips touched, it took all his strength to quickly stop.
Pooh quickly heard an echo of what Shona had said. ‘I don’t want our friendship to end because of a fight…’
Shona looked empty as he leaned away, like she wanted the kiss.
“Let’s go to the sleepover.” Pooh said and wiped Shona’s tears.
    “Okay.”
Shona’s heart felt heavy as she noticed that he didn’t kiss her.
‘Me and my big mouth…’ Shona thought, but quickly walked beside Pooh.
For the rest of the ten minutes it a quiet walk to Pooh’s house.
    ***SleepOver***
When they opened the door they saw Meeku, trying to put out a small fire.
    “Meeku!” Pooh shouted.
    “What did you do?!”
“Umm…I was trying to make popcorn and…the bag kinda exploded.” Meeku said and spat in the fire.
“Spitting isn’t gonna help this fire!” Pooh shouted and opened the side closet.
“Help me find the fire extinguisher!” Pooh called to Shona.
She immediately found it and handed it to him.
    “How did you-“
“I’m just that good!” Shona teased and pushed him towards the fire.
“Move!” Pooh shouted and pushed Meeku out of the way.
Soon the flames where out and they were all cleaning the burnt area, which wasn’t very big.
    “Sorry…” Meeku said quietly.
“That’s fine, just next time wait for us to get home.” Pooh said and gave his little brother a playful punch.
“Okay, who wants to watch a movie?” Shona asked and held up all the Harry Potter movies.
“Me!” Meeku cried and jumped up and down.
    Shona and Pooh laughed.
    “All of them?” Shona asked.
“Yeah!” Meeku said and pulled the blanket, which was hanging from the ceiling, back.
“Wow! How did you do all this?” Shona was amazed as she saw three sleeping bags set in a row, Meeku’s was in the middle of course.
There was a huge bowl of popcorn in the middle of the sleeping bags. The TV was a huge 60’’ Plasma screen with speakers and surround sound.
There was also a deck of cards, a flashlight and a lamp.
“Hen, easy peesy!” Meeku said and patted Shona’s spot.
She smiled and sat gracefully on the fluffy, green sleeping bag.
Pooh rolled his eyes as he sat down on his blue sleeping bag.
“So, why do you get to sleep by Shona and not me?” Pooh asked.
“Just keeping it PG.” Meeku teased and popped in the first Harry Potter movie.
Not even ten minutes into the movie Meeku had fallen asleep.
Shona giggled and scooted towards Pooh.
He put his arm around her as they watched the movie.
    “Hey Shona,” Pooh whispered.
“Huh?” Shona whispered back not really paying attention.
“I’ve got something for you.” Pooh pulled something out of his pocket and put it in Shona’s hand.
She looked down to see what it was.
    “A ticket?” She asked.
“That ticket was not a cheap one.”
Shona held it up to get a better look. Her mouth fell wide open as her eyes widened.
“How did you…why did you-“ Shona was speechless.
“I did it for you, Shona your singing is amazing. I know you could make it.” Pooh whispered and gently played with her silky hair.
“American Idol.” Shona read and smiled.
“Thanks so much.” She gave Pooh a hug and leaned against him as they finished the movie.
As soon as it was over, Pooh put in the next one.
“Pause it.” Shona said only 20 minutes into the movie.
“Okay.” Pooh said and hit the pause button on the remote.
Shona got up and grabbed her bag.
About 10 minutes later she came out of the bathroom in her Orange teddy pajamas.
    Pooh smiled.
“Nice bears.” He said as she sat down and traced some of them.
“Thanks.” Was all Shona said as she grabbed the remote to press play.
Soon Shona had a hard time keeping her eyes open.
She tried to fight sleep, but it wasn’t working.
Pooh noticed her head drooping into his lap.
“Sleep Shona. You need it.” He gently whispered into her ear, making her shiver.
He kissed her forehead and started stroking her hair as he watched the movie.
Shona was sleeping before she knew it.
Pooh smiled at the sound of her soft breathing.
‘She sounds so peaceful.’ He thought and imaged them together, more than friends.
He sighed and pushed the thought away.
Then he looked at the clock, 2:14am.
‘I should get some sleep.’ Pooh thought and slowly sank down onto his sleeping bag, trying not to wake Shona.
He softly laid her head on his chest and played with her hair as he drifted asleep.
    ***Breakfast Argument***
“Whoa! Shona’s got a huge butt!” Meeku shouted, waking Shona and Pooh up.
“What are you doing?!” Pooh shouted and tackled his brother to the ground.
    “Let the undies go!”
    “Why should I?”
“Their not yours!” Pooh shouted and grabbed Shona’s pink underwear.
“Meeku! Why where you in my stuff?!” Shona shouted snatching her underwear out of Pooh’s hands.
“Perverts!” Shona shouted and quickly put them in her bag.
    “S? There’s no s! I didn’t do anything!” Pooh said.
“You still touched them!” Shona said and cringed her nose.
“So, what’s for breakfast?” Meeku asked randomly.
“Huh? We have pancakes, muffins, cereal or eggs. Pick one kid.” Pooh said and grabbed a frying pan from the cupboard.
“Well, I want what Shona’s having.” Meeku said and winked at her.
    Shona rolled her eyes.
    “I’ll have pancakes.” She said.
“Good cause that’s what I makin’.” Pooh said and grabbed the ingredients for pancakes.
Shona smiled and grabbed one of the stools to sit on.
“So, Meeku did you have fun at the sleepover?” Shona asked and winked.
“Oh, It was fun! I can’t believe I stayed up so late!”
    Pooh and Shona both laughed.
    “What?” Meeku asked confused.
“You only stayed up ‘til 10.” Pooh said and poured the mix in the pan.
“So! That’s late for me! What time did you fall asleep?” Meeku raised an eyebrow.
“I stayed up ‘til 2.” Pooh said, flipping a pancake.
“I stayed up ‘til 1:30? I think.” Shona said and watched the pancake flip in the air several times before Pooh put it on a plate.
“What where doing up so late? I hope it was PG.” Meeku teased.
“All we did was watch the Harry Potter movie.” Pooh said and made another pancake.
“Chocolate chips, my dear?” Pooh asked in a funny tone that made Meeku laugh.
“Yes, please!” Shona and Meeku both said.
“Okay, I’ll make a double batch.” Pooh said.
After Pooh made breakfast they were all eating.
“This is really good Pooh.” Shona said.
“Mm Hm!” Meeku agreed and stuffed a whole pancake in his mouth.
“Hey be practical here! There’s enough for fifths.” Pooh said taking a bite off a sausage.
    Shona giggled.
“I wish my cousin would make breakfast! I haven’t had it in a long time.” Shona savored every piece she took.
    Pooh frowned but said nothing.
Shona could tell he didn’t like her cousin, but he would have to get used to him.
“He wasn’t always like this Pooh.” Shona said quietly.
“Doesn’t change the way I think about him.” Pooh grunted shoving a fork full of pancake in his mouth.
Meeku looked back and forth. Shona, Pooh, Shona, Pooh.
“What are you guys talking about?” Meeku asked.
“Nothing you need to worry about.” Pooh said.
Shona looked down at her plate. She didn’t want to make Pooh mad.
“Fine, don’t tell me!” Meeku said and looked expectant at Shona.
Shona looked up and saw Meeku with big eyes.
‘The puppy eyes…’ Shona thought and quickly looked away, for she was a
    sucker for that face.
Pooh sighed and finished his breakfast.
Shona bit her lip again as she could feel tears coming.
“Shona, I need to talked to you….” Pooh paused as Meeku got up quickly.
    “Alone.”
Shona nodded and finished her breakfast.
“What’s up, Pooh?” Shona asked once they were in Pooh’s and Meeku’s room.
“I didn’t mean to be so rude this morning…I was just mad, and afraid.” Pooh said and sat
on the opposite end of the bed that Shona was on.
“Afraid? Of what?” Shona asked confused.
“Afraid for you.” Pooh whispered and laid on his bed.
“Why? I’m perfectly fine living with my cousin.”
    “For now.” Pooh added.
“For now? What do you mean?”
“Shona, I’m scared one day Nile will…I don’t know harm you or something.”
    Pooh said.
“He wouldn’t. You saw how protective he was when you came in the house.”
Shona said and cringed at the thought.
“So, that doesn’t change anything, it just means he will be more successful.”
“Pooh, what are you talking about?!” Shona shouted in anger.
“All I’m saying is that when that day comes-“
“When? There is no when!” Shona quickly got up and stormed out of the room.
Meeku was standing there with a mouthful of marshmallows.
    Pooh’s eyes widened.
“Were you there the whole time?” Pooh asked and sighed.
Meeku nodded and slid to his bed.
“Is she mad?” He asked quietly.
    “You think?”
    “Will she ever come back?”
“She’ll come around.” Pooh said and flipped the switch on the TV.
    “Can we watch Sponge Bob?”
    “Sure.”
    ***Cousin’s Threat***
‘I can’t believe he thinks my cousin is going to kill me!’
Shona thought as she entered her house.
    “I’m home!” She called.
    No answer.
    “Nile?” She called.
    Still no answer.
“Nile, come on this isn’t funny!”
“Who said I was trying to be funny?” Nile’s deep voice came from behind Shona.
She jumped and quickly turned around.
“What are you doing?” She asked as she saw something in Nile’s hands.
“Don’t take it personally it’s just business.” Nile said and came closer.
“Business? What kind of business?” Shona asked as she backed up into a wall.
“I figured out why my life’s been so miserable. It’s because I’ve wasted all my time on
you.” Nile said and gripped the knife in his hands.
“Nile, please don’t do this.” Shona whispered as she realized Pooh had been right.
“This won’t hurt a bit.” Nile said and held the knife over his head.
Shona winced as she fell silent.
Tears of fear rolled down her cheeks as he slammed the knife in her chest.
“You know, Pooh was right about you…Nile, your nothing but a drunk.” Shona
choked out and coughed up blood.
Shona suddenly saw a hit of pain in Nile’s eyes that quickly faded.
“Hm.” Was all Nile said and he pulled the knife out and watched Shona fall to the
    ground.
Suddenly Shona saw her cousin grab a big black heavy box looking thing.
    “What is-“
Shona couldn’t finish, Nile hit here over the head with it.
Shona felt blood drip down her forehead as she lay lifelessly against the wall.
“I’ve got to go, but my sweet cousin. We will meet again soon, real soon.”
    Nile said and grinned.
“So, you don’t plan on killing me?” Shona asked weakly.
“Nope, not you. But I’ve got someone else in mind…” Nile’s voice trailed off and he
disappeared out of the house, leaving Shona alone to…’To what?’ Shona thought. He
wasn’t planning to kill her. Then who?
She heard a match being lit and felt heat close to her body.
A sharp piercing pain suddenly filled Shona’s body as she was overcome by it.
“Help!” Shona tried yelling, hoping, praying, someone would hear her.
“Help…” Soon Shona was too weak too yell, too talk, even too weak to keep her eyes
    open.
She choked on the smoke that was surrounding her.
    “Shona!”
Shona heard a faint voice, she tried to open her eyes but it was all a blur.
    “Hold on!” The voice said.
    “Hold….”
Shona couldn’t hear the voice anymore, as she grew unconscious, under a spell of pain.
    ***In the Park***
“Please be okay, please…” A voice softly sobbed.
It was the same voice that had been….where? Shona couldn’t remember anything.
    Nor feel anything.
‘What is going on?’ She thought as she tried to open her eyes.
    She felt…wet. Soaked actually.
    She slowly opened her eyes.
    “Pooh?”
Shona was shocked to see him there. Wherever there was.
“Shona! Oh my Shona!” He cried and hurled his arms around her.
“What happened?” She asked confused and nauseas.
“I told you, your cousin is no good!” Pooh shouted and leaned her against something
    rough.
“I was so worried.” Pooh admitted.
    “Where are we?” Shona asked.
“We are in the park.” Pooh said and softly stroked her hair from her face.
    “But how?”
“I took you here, because your house was burning.” Pooh winced as he saw a gash across
    her forehead.
“Did he hit you?” Pooh asked.
“I don’t remember.” Shona whispered and felt numb and cold.
“Am I going to die?” Shona asked and watched Pooh smile.
“No, silly I will take you to the hospital right now.” Pooh said but paused to lean in and
    kiss her forehead.
“I’m sorry I didn’t believe you.” Shona whispered as she fell limp in Pooh’s arms.
“It’s okay.” Was all Shona could remember before she fell unconscious again.
    ***The Text***
Shona woke up to an annoying beeping sound and a feeling to pee.
She opened her eyes and smiled when she saw Pooh, sleeping on a near by chair.
She suddenly wondered what time it was.
She glanced at the clock on the wall.
    2:42….am or pm?
    The window was slightly open.
    ‘It was…am.’
Shona thought and then quickly and quietly she got up from the bed and scooted her and
the shiny things into the bathroom.
As soon as she was out she saw Pooh awake and twiddling his thumbs.
“Pooh, I thought you were asleep. Oops did I wake you?” Shona asked feeling guilty.
“The toilet scared me.” Pooh said and smiled helping Shona back into the bed.
“Thanks.” She said and felt like a complete idiot.
‘I wish I would have just let him kiss me.’ Shona thought and wanted to throw herself at
    Pooh.
There was an awkward silence as Pooh stood over Shona as if trying to read her.
    Shona suddenly looked away.
But it was too late, Pooh had already read her.
He slowly leaned in and held Shona’s chin in his hands.
Shona blushed as she found herself looking at Pooh.
“Shona, I really was worried about you.”
He said and touched his lips to hers.
She suddenly had to keep from crying as Pooh’s kiss told her all the worrying he’s been
threw, all the pain, all the wanting.
And she knew he wanted her.
She wrapped her arms around him as he twirled her hair in his fingers.
“Shona, please don’t ever run off again.” Pooh said between kisses.
“I won’t.” Shona said and pulled Pooh closer to her.
She started unbuttoning his shirt when he pulled away.
“Shona, we’re in a hospital. And your only 17.” Pooh said and smiled.
She smiled innocently and batted her eyelashes cutely.
Pooh rolled his eyes and kissed her forehead.
“Nope.” He said and sat on the chair he had been sleeping on.
Pooh left his shirt unfastened to tease Shona, which was working.
“Shona, get some sleep.” Pooh said and closed his eyes.
When Pooh woke up Shona was sound asleep.
He smiled and felt his pocket vibrate.
He jumped and quickly read the number.
It was from a blocked number.
‘Weird.’ Pooh thought and shivered as he read what it had said.
    ‘I no where u r.’
‘I need to get Shona out of here.’ Pooh thought and tried to think of an excuse.
Suddenly he thought about the American idol tickets. He could get her on a plane to keep
    safe.
He walked towards Shona and whispered in her ear.
“Come on, Love. American Idol is waiting for you.”
Shona smiled as soon as he said Love.
Pooh could tell she liked that.
He detached everything that was attached to her and lifted her into his arms.
Pooh had carried sleeping Shona all the way to the airport and he let her sleep.
    ***The Explosion***
“Shona, your plane is almost here.”
Pooh said and stroked her hair from her face.
    Shona cuddled into him.
    “Five more minutes.”
    She mumbled.
“Come on, just think. Soon you’ll be famous.”
Pooh whispered into Shona’s ear and started humming a tune Shona recognized.
“The sun has gone to rest…” Shona sang.
Pooh stopped humming when people started looking towards the singing 17 year old.
Some even stopped by them to hear Shona sing.
“Hush now baby, don’t you cry…” Shona smiled thinking of Kit.
“Attention, we have just received a bomb threat, please remain calm and come with us.”
Shona’s heart skipped a beat, so did Pooh’s.
    Suddenly his cell phone vibrated.
‘Blocked Number,’ Pooh thought and shivered.
    ‘I can see you.’
Pooh quickly covered Shona and carried her towards the bomb shelter.
    “Quickly.” The attendant said.
Pooh pushed Shona in the line, she looked back, but kept walking.
    “I’ll be right behind you!”
Pooh called and grabbed his phone.
“Who r u?” Pooh said as he typed.
‘Y do u want to know?’ The number replied.
“What do you doing?” Pooh text.
‘Lighting a bomb!’ Pooh’s eyes widened.
“What are you talking about? You’re here?” Pooh asked.
    ‘Sure.’
“Everybody hurry!” Pooh pushed the line to go faster.
“Hey, don’t push!” The person in front of him shouted.
“Ma’am if you don’t go any faster we could die!”
With that the line was in the bomb shelter in 5 minutes when Pooh escorted the lady into
    the shelter.
    ‘5…4…3…2’ Pooh read.
    “One.”
    ***The Final Kiss***
“Pooh!” Shona screeched as he was sent flying threw a wall.
“Ma’am stay here!” The guard said and held Shona back.
Tears rolled down Shona’s face as Pooh lay lifeless in the open fire.
“Okay everyone evacuate the building.” The guard said taking his attention off of Shona.
    She ran towards Pooh’s body.
    She cringed at the sight.
A body covered in a pool of blood, with broken bones and a lot of scares.
Shona’s heart sank as she knew this was the end of her best friend.
“ Pooh, this is all my fault.” Shona sobbed and knelt down by him.
Shona stroked his hair from his face as her tears fell on his cheeks.
Suddenly Pooh raised his hand to Shona’s cheek.
“Shona, don’t cry for me.” Pooh’s voice was weak.
“But-“ Shona couldn’t finnish, the sight of Pooh crying was enough to make her
    speechless.
Tears of Pooh’s slid effortlessly down his cheeks, mixing with Shona’s and blood.
“I should’ve gotten in the shelter.” Pooh tired to smile, he flinched as pain was sent
    Piercing threw him.
“No, don’t blame yourself.” Shona’s voice shook.
“Shona Promise me….promise me you’ll be safe.”
    Shona started shaking.
“I promise.” She said and crossed her fingers.
She felt terrible for lying to him.
“Take care of Meeku, huh? He really likes you.” Pooh’s voice grew faint.
Shona nodded as a stream of tears went down her face.
“Please don’t leave me.” She begged.
“I’ll stay as long as I can, Love.” Pooh said and motioned for Shona to come closer.
She leaned forward and slowly touched her lips to his.
She didn’t like this kiss, but savored it anyway.
Finally Pooh leaned away and fell limp.
“Pooh!” Shona cried and smothered her dead friend in her arms.
She didn’t care if she had blood all over her.
She poured herself on Pooh as firemen came to put the fire out.
The ambulance came to take Pooh’s body.
    Shona wouldn’t, couldn’t go.
She had to change and comfort Meeku.
‘Oh, Meeku…’ Shona thought and felt terrible again.
    ***The Funeral***
As soon as Shona got to Pooh’s house Meeku was sleeping.
    She shook him lightly.
“Meeku, I have to tell you something…”
    Meeku opened his eyes.
“Huh? Was your flight delayed?” He asked.
“Yes,” Shona paused, well it was true.
    “Where’s Pooh?”
“Meeku, I have to tell you something.”
    Meeku was wide awake now.
“Pooh is…Dead.” Shona choked and saw Meeku’s eyes widen.
“But how?” Meeku shouted as tears rolled down his face.
“There was an explosion at the airport, and he didn’t make it into the shelter…”
Shona’s voice trailed off trying to control her tears.
“But how did you get in?”
“He pushed me into the front. Meeku I’m so sorry it’s all my fault!” Shona shouted
and Shona sobbed into his arms.
Meeku’s heart sank, but he liked having Shona in his arms.
He shook the thought away and realized he would never see his brother again.
Tears spilt over his cheeks as shivers went up and down his spine.
Meeku wrapped his arms around Shona.
“It’s not your fault.” He whispered and buried his face into her.
    “I’m glad your still here.”
    Shona smiled a little.
“Thanks.” She whispered and they both fell asleep.
In the morning Shona and Meeku had gotten up early to go to Pooh’s funeral.
The morning had been an awkward silence.
They didn’t talk until they were there and saw all of the people there.
    It was packed.
His family was there, his friends, and Nile was there too.
“Nile, what are you doing here?” Shona asked.
    “I felt guilty.” He answered.
“What do you mean? Your not the one that…” Shona paused and shivered.
“I’m sorry, Shona. It’s my fault and I am going to turn my life around today.” Nile said
    and hugged her.
She felt weird hugging someone that’s been so cold all these years.
    “Thank you.” Shona whipered.
    Nile nodded.
“Meeku do you want to see him?” Shona asked quietly.
Meeku had tears in his eyes and nodded.
Shona led him towards the open casket.
Meeku paused before stepping to see the face.
    “Go on.” She said.
Meeku ran to the casket and let all his tears pour out.
“Pooh! Why did you have to go!?” Meeku sobbed and hugged the casket.
    “Meeku…” Shona whispered.
    “Meeku,”
Meeku heard a voice say, it was familiar.
    “Pooh?” He whispered.
Then Meeku felt a hand on his shoulder.
“Meeku, be good for Shona okay?” The voice said.
Meeku nodded, “I’ll be the best I can.” He sobbed.
“Thank you, I love you both.”
“I’ll miss you.” Meeku said and felt the hand disappear.
    “Bye Meeku. Bye Shona.”
    Meeku waved at empty air.
Shona looked at him and understood though, ‘He’s saying goodbye to his brother.’ She
    Thought.
Meeku gave it all he had to get up and walk over to Shona, only to burry his face into her
    and cry his heart out.
    ***Gone***
A couple weeks after the funeral Shona and Meeku had moved in with Nile.
They had a pretty bumpy start but Meeku got used to Nile.
Soon they were a semi happy family.
But Meeku had a plan, he was going to runaway with Shona.
He was afraid of Nile, and Nile knew it.
‘If Shona will not come with I’m on my own!’ Meeku thought and started packing a little
    Backpack.
“Meeku, breakfast is ready.” Nile called.
    “Coming.” He called back.
Meeku quickly grabbed his backpack and ran to the window.
He had left a note for Shona, and a picture of him and his brother.
Then the words of Pooh ran threw his mind, “Be good for Shona, okay?”
Meeku pushed the thought away and jumped out of the window.
“I’m sorry Shona.” He whispered and began running.
“Meeku time to eat!” Shona called as she walked down the hallway.
“Meeku?” Then she stopped dead in her tracks as the window was wide open and his all
    his stuff was gone.
Her first thought was, ‘Meeku has run away.’
