“Come on mommy! You’re such a slow poke! I want to see daddy!” Davey said with such anticipation in his voice.
“Davey love, I have to drive the speed limit. We’ll be there soon.” I said, trying to reassure him.
“But we need to see daddy! Mommy you should come play with us. We’ll be like everyone else’s family in my school.” Davey said with a hoping smile.
How do I explain this to a three and a half year old? “Maybe next time, Mommy has work today, sweetheart.” Is the only thing I can say.
“You said that last time…” Davey’s sprit was crushed. You could tell just by the tone of his voice. But three and a half year olds never stay too sad for long.
“Look we’re here!” Even I was a little excited.
We were now pulling up to the ten story high college apartments; meant for rich snobby college students that refused to say in the actual college dorms. They were two times the size of the college that was just down the street. You’d have to admit, they were gorgeous though. Red brick paths leading to the grand entrance with cherry bosoms spaced evenly along it. My crappy apartment doesn’t even compare to these, and it doesn’t help looking at this and then knowing I’m being evicted from the dump I call home. But I can’t think of that now, I need to stay strong. And if I go to work tonight I’ll be able to pay some of the rent, and when I come home I’ll try and convince the landlord to let me stay until I find another place to stay.
“Come on Mommy hurry up and help me out of my car seat!” His eyes gleamed in the sun light. He’s such an angel.
Getting him out of the car and walking hand and hand up the red brick path always makes me remember how I got myself into this mess at only fifteen years old.
It was just a little more then three years ago; I was about ready to go into the 10th grade with just a few more summer party nights ahead of me. When I got word of a huge party going on at a 12th grader’s house that I spoke to on and off and her parents were out of the country for a week on some business trip. I headed over right away with my best friend Natashia. She had just broken up with her boyfriend and wanted to hook up with other guys to make him jealous of what he had. I was just going because I loved to party. We weren’t exactly sure how we were going to get home, and I wasn’t about to let her go home with some creep just because she was vulnerable. Once we actually got to the party we found out that Natashia’s old boyfriend was there. So being the person Natashia is, she hooked up with the first cute guy she saw. And of course that started a fight between the new guy and her old boyfriend. Personally I wasn’t in the mood to watch a fight, so I picked up a cup and started pouring. I was completely mangled by the 3rd or 4th cup. I staggered into the living room where I had left Natashia, and she was cuddling with her old boyfriend, saying how sorry each other was. She looked at me and mouthed “THANKYOU LEA!” and I just smiled and staggered some more into the dinning room. That’s when I saw him. He had to be the most gorgeous guy in the world; Cory. Of course I knew who he was and that I couldn’t have him because no one had ever had the guts to ask him. Being drunk always gave me more courage then I ever had. I sat down across from him and asked him why he was sitting here by himself. He just told me that his best friend Dan was hooking up with some girl and he didn’t know what else to do. I wanted to kiss him so badly. I mean, He was the guy of my dreams. He liked everything I liked, and him being a 12th grader was nothing like I expected him to be. I spent the rest of the party talking to him about my interests and what my family was like. When I looked at the time I ran to the living room to see that Natashia had gone home with her boyfriend. I had no way of getting home so Cory offered to give me a lift home. When I got to my house I was still drunk and all the lights in my house were off. There was no way to get in without waking up everyone and getting killed by my parents. So I called Natashia and asked her if I could sleep at her house, but she was at her boyfriend’s house. I had no where to go. Until Cory asked me to spend the night at his house because his parents aren’t home till early morning and are out all night. I couldn’t refuse. Once we got to his house it was like a castle from a dream. He offered me a pair of boxers and a T-shirt and showed me to my room.
I awoke in the middle of the night and felt the uttermost urge to see him, to be near him, so I walked down the hall way into his room. He obviously couldn’t sleep either. We both felt the same thing. I needed him, and he needed me. He had told me that he liked me since the first time he laid eyes on me and I told him how I felt about him. He told me that everything about me was exactly what he wanted, and it was like I was sent from heaven. It had to be the most beautiful thing someone has ever said to me. Soon after that I couldn’t keep my hands off his body. I needed more and more of him and we started kissing and one thing led to another and 9 months later I had Davey.
Cory had asked me about a hundred times to marry me and my answer never changed. I refuse to marry someone who doesn’t love me. He does say that he loves me, but that is out of pity. And I do love him, but I can’t ever admit that to him.
Now that I think about it, I still look the same with my long blond hair, slim figure and boobs bigger then I needed. But I guess a lot of things haven’t changed. Natashia is still my best friend, and she offers to watch over her god child every second she gets a chance. And I’m still working two jobs like as before. And I still have love for Cory.
Time flies when you constantly talk to yourself. Maybe today is the day I’ll grow some balls and actually talk to him without getting choked up or completely making an a** out of myself, but that’s very unlikely.
His door was approaching us as we walked down the well lit hall way, and as I stood in front of it I tried to breathe. I was so nervous my hands were shaking. I’m acting like a five year old that just met Hanna Montana. God, Why me?! Davey anxiously opened the door and ran in. I took a step forward and saw Cory. He slung Davey on his back. I gazed at Davey’s light blue angel eyes. He was the most beautiful little boy I had ever seen, and the guy holding him was as equally as breath taking. They look so much alike, from the almost earlobe length dirty blonde hair, to their eyes, to their smile. That bright face soon faded to a worrying expression as I fell closer and closer to the ground, and everything went black.
I awoke in slight darkness with an icepack just above my head. I looked warily around me trying to puzzle where exactly I was. I was laying on a California king sized bed. Then I realized that I was an hour late for work! As I attempted to get up I felt the pain from my head and my back. I must have hit something on the way down, and hard. But I ignored the pain and got myself to the night stand with great effort. I wasn’t about to give up. I needed to go to work and pay my bills. There was no way that head and back pains could stop me.
“Lea! Get back in bed! You’re going to hurt yourself even more! Lay right back down NOW!” He walked into the room and shouted at me.
“Excuse me, but don’t yell at me!” Now I was shouting.
“GET BACK IN BED NOW!” He shouted back at me.
“WHY?! I’M FINE, AND I HAVE TO GO TO WORK OR I’m GOING TO GET FIRED! I HAVE TO EAT YOU KNOW!” My voice cracked from yelling. My voice was never meant to go that loud.
“Apparently you don’t. When was the last time you ate anyway?” he said with a smirk and his voice lightened.
And I stood there trying to remember. When was the last time I had eaten? It must have had to been yesterday, or maybe it was the day before that. I honestly couldn’t remember. And it didn’t help that my stomach growled when he said that.
“Earlier today.” I lied biting my bottom lip.
“Your lying to me.” He said figuring me out. “I know when you’re lying, and that’s your lying face”
“I don’t have a lying face” I commended.
“Yes you do, it’s when you bite bottom lip and look at the ground.” He said with a laugh.
Was I really that easy to figure out? I need to change my lying face.
I looked at the clock again and told him “I have to leave for work NOW, that’s if I still have a job to go to. This was my last strike, I was late one more time and I was out. Why didn’t you wake me anyway? You know I have to go to work. I can’t lose this job.” I was out of breath and trying to compose myself.
“Don’t worry-“He said before I cut him off.
“DON’T WORRY? ARE YOU SEROUIS? I NEED THIS JOB MORE THEN ANYTHING! I WON’T BE ABLE TO PAY MY BILLS AND I’LL BE OUT ON THE STREETS!” I was yelling again.
He responded in a slow calm voice ”I already called in and quit for you. Why did you work in that dump anyway? You could do so much better, and you know it.”
“You’re kidding right? You’re just kidding; I still have my job, right?” I asked scared. He really didn’t understand how bad I really needed this job.
“Nope, I called in and told then that you wouldn’t be working there anymore.” He said in an eloquent tone.
“WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO ME? DO YOU REALLY HATE MY THAT MUCH? IS THIS FUNNY TO WATCH ME STRUGGLE? HOW COULD YOU DO THAT?” I screamed almost crying.
“Well why don’t you just stay here for a while, you know until you get a better job. Plus I know you couldn’t have been making that much because you had an eviction notice on your door.” He responded still calm.
“You mean a job that’s up to your standards? I’m sorry I can’t do that. And now thanks to you I have to explain to my boss that it was just a joke. Do you even know how much I got from tips? And if I really have to, I’ll move back in with my parents or something.” I said angrily.
“No- not up to my standards, but to yours. And you know your parents wouldn’t let you move back in without you paying them more then you can afford. But anyway its too late now.”
“What do you mean it’s ‘too late’?”
“Well all of yours and Davey’s belongings are here now in your own rooms.”
“I WAS ASLEEP FOR AN HOUR! How did you even do that? It’s physically impossible! There is no way. You’re lying to me.”
“I wouldn’t lie to you, but right now don’t worry about that; just get some sleep.”
“What makes you think that I’ll stay here? Don’t you think that I’ll just re-pack my things and leave while you’re at work?”
“Yeah, but you won’t.”
“What makes you so sure?”
“Because I know you lea, I know you better then you know yourself.”
“You just wait boy.” I told him with a grin.
He started laughing at me hysterically, and led me to my new room. I guess one night wouldn’t kill me. I need my rest anyway.
As I walked into my room I was astonished by the site of the most gorgeous room I had ever seen. It took my breath away. Everything was perfect from the Victorian bed frame to the crystal chandelier. It was like something you would have seen in a old time catalog.
